NO. 9 GEE-GEES IMPROVE FOOTBALL WIN STREAK TO FOUR
This time it was the York Lions who became their latest victims.
uOttawa outlasted their opponents by the score of 54-31 at York Stadium in Toronto.
uOttawa's last loss came in Week 3 when they were defeated 20-8 by the Queen's Gaels at Frank Clair Stadium.
From there the Gee-Gees have been on a four-game run knocking off the Toronto Varsity Blues, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, Guelph Gryphons and now York.
This current string of wins comes at a great time as the Gee-Gees start to gear up for the playoffs which begin later this month.
With another win next week against the Windsor Lancers, the Gee-Gees could open the post-season at home on Saturday, Oct. 31 in one of two OUA quarter-finals.
And depending on the outcomes of other games over the remainder of the last week of the schedule, they may even have a chance of receiving a bye in the first round.
Queen's has locked up first place with Western, Ottawa, Laurier and McMaster all in the mix for spots from second to fifth place in the conference.
"We came here to get to two points and we did, but we didn't play well, we weren't totally focused and it really showed at times during the game," said Denis Piché, uOttawa head coach.
"We left a lot of points on the field today but I have to give York credit they were able to make big plays when they had the opportunity to do so."
Saturday's contest marks the second time this season that the Gee-Gees have posted 50 points or more in a single game.
uOttawa gave up 30 or more points for just the second time this year.
"Even though we won I expect to see a very different team next week at practice as we prepare for our next game against Windsor," Piché stated.
The Gee-Gees will go for five wins in a row next Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they entertain the Windsor Lancers (2-4) at Frank Clair Stadium to close out the regular season.
