The Student-Athlete is Our Focus
The OUA and member institutions provide a shared focus on student-athlete success in academics, athletics, and community leadership. Student-athletes have access to exemplary coaching, superior training and competition, premier facilities, and outstanding academic programming within the scope of categories of The Sport Model and our respective institutions. The Sport Model allocates sports into three areas: G1, G2, and G3.
G1 – Football, Basketball, Hockey
A high performance OUA Sport that is a strategic component of the national or provincial athlete development model; is spectator friendly; can generate revenue at universities and the OUA; and have a media, communication, and sponsorship focus.
G2 – Cross Country, Field Hockey, Rugby, Rowing, Soccer, Swimming, Track & Field, Volleyball, Wrestling
High performance OUA Sport that is a strategic component of the national or provincial athlete development model.
G3 – Badminton, Baseball, Curling, Fencing, Figure Skating, Golf, Lacrosse, Nordic Skiing, Squash, Tennis, Water Polo
An OUA Sport which provides a competitive opportunity for student-athletes to represent their university within post-secondary competition at a member-led and OUA-supported Open Championship. Teams may participate in pre-Championship competition at the discretion of the member institution; such competitions are not under the jurisdiction of the OUA.
