GEE-GEES KNOCK OFF ANOTHER CIS TOP 10 FOOTBALL TEAM
That time has finally come as Ottawa seems to be hitting its stride at just the right time of the year.
After starting the season with one victory in their first three games, the Gee-Gees made it three wins in a row as they pasted the visiting No. 9 nationally-ranked Guelph Gryphons 50-26 on Friday night in front of 1,210 fans at Frank Clair Stadium.
uOttawa pick up their first victory on home turf after two failed attempts against Western and Queen's earlier this season.
The Gee-Gees overpowered the Gryphons in the air and on the ground as the Ottawa offence compiled 714 yards in total offence.
"We were prepared for this game and executed our game plan perfectly," said Piché. "Our plan was to keep the ball on offence and put up points when we had the chance."
Quarterback Brad Sinopoli (Peterborough, Ont.) was the offensive catalyst for Ottawa once again as he picked apart the Guelph defence all night.
Sinopoli (pictured) threw three touchdown passes to his favourite receiver Cyril Adjeitey (Ghana) and ran 53 yards for another.
Brandon Gillanders (Orleans, Ont.) scored Ottawa's other major and rushed for 107 yards on 10 carries.
Guelph led by two points 9-7 briefly in the first quarter but it was all Ottawa from then on as Sinopoli and company took over.
uOttawa led 21-9 after Adjeitey pulled in his second TD reception of the evening and Sinopoli scampered 53 yards to the house.
The two teams then traded a couple of field goals and headed to their dressing rooms with Ottawa ahead 27-12.
A Gee-Gees fumble early in the second half led to a six-yard touchdown pass from Justin Dunk (Guelph, Ont.) to Jamie Shaw (Mississauga, Ont.) narrowing Ottawa's lead to 27-19.
Adjeitey and Sinopoli hooked up once again this time from 42 yards out to increase the Gee-Gees lead to 34-19.
Gillanders five yard run padded Ottawa's lead to 41-19 at 9:18 of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter Matthew Falvo (Welland, Ont.) picked up a pair of field goals from nine and 42 yards for Ottawa before David Harrison (Waterdown, Ont.) and Guelph quarterback Chris Rossetti (Mississauga, Ont.) connected on a 56 catch and run.
Rossetti entered the game in relief of Dunk who was limited to just 118 yards in passing.
The Gee-Gees will try to extend their winning streak to four straight games next Saturday in Toronto when they take on the winless York Lions (0-6).
