WILSON-ROSS CARRIES GEE-GEES PAST WARRIORS IN FOOTBALL
uOttawa improves to 1-1 on the season and 19-1 all-time against the Warriors in the first game at Waterloo in uOttawa head coach Denis Piche's eight seasons.
Wilson-Ross, a transfer from Alliston, Ont., via Nassau Community College (Garden City, N.Y.), had touchdown runs of 10 yards in the first quarter and 33 yards in the second before finishing with the third-highest rushing total in uOttawa football program history, behind Bill Harrison's 277 yards in 1974 and Davie Mason's CIS playoff-record 372 yards in 2008.
The Gee-Gees recorded five quarterback sacks, holding the Warriors to 340 yards of net offence while producing 571 yards. A 41-yard interception return for a touchdown by second-year linebacker Alex Lothian of Brampton put the Gee-Gees up 42-11 at 2:55 of the third quarter.
The Gee-Gees used second-year back-up QB Aaron Colbon and a host of substitutes in the fourth quarter. Second-year P/K Matt Falvo's 31-year field goal concluded the scoring at 11:02.
Piche was pleased with the effort but not with 15 penalty calls against the Gee-Gees for 125 yards.
"This is still an issue we will need to address," said Piche. "We have to get better and be more disciplined."
Wilson-Ross, who also added 16 receiving yards, scored two touchdowns and rushed for 169 yards off 12 carries and fourth-year WR Cyril Adjeitey of Ottawa caught two touchdown passes on four catches for 59 yards in the first half as uOttawa went into the break with a 28-8 advantage.
Sinopoli was 11-17 for 204 yards and two touchdown passes at the half.
uOttawa is home to Queen's (2-0) Sat., Sept. 19, 1 p.m. The Warriors visit cross-town rival Wilfrid Laurier live on The Score Television Network beginning at 1 p.m.
