OUA FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENCE: Dan Brannagan, Queen's Gaels, Quarterback
Brannagan (Burlington, Ont.) had a career afternoon in the No. 8 Queen's Gaels 52-49 win over the Guelph Gryphons in the team's home opener on Monday. Brannagan (pictured) racked up 495 passing yards, which is the eighth-best single-game total in OUA history. He also threw for three touchdowns on the day, and drove the Gaels down the field in the final minute to set up Mike Petranovic's game-winning field goal with no time remaining on the clock.
DEFENCE: Chayce Elliott, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Cornerback
The No. 10 Ottawa Gee-Gees fourth-year speed corner had two of Ottawa's season-opening three interceptions Sunday during a 32-17 home loss to No. 2 Western Ontario. A native of Burnaby, B.C., Elliott, who also finished the game with two tackles, is playing his first full season in OUA and was also Ottawa's primary punt returner, contributing 48 yards on six run backs.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Jimmy Allin, Queen's Gaels, Returner
Allin (Belleville, Ont.) had the game of his career as he returned two punts and a kickoff for touchdowns in the Gaels thrilling 52-49 victory over the Guelph Gryphons on Monday. In addition to the touchdowns, Allin recorded the second-highest single game punt return yardage in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) history with 259. He also had 180 kickoff return yards for a total of 439 return yards on the day. Allin is also the Pioneer Petroleums OUA Male Athlete of the Week.
