LEFAIVE, ANGLIN LEAD LANCERS PAST VARSITY BLUES IN FOOTBALL HOME OPENER
With the victory, Windsor moves to 2-0 on the season and will now get ready to face the Western Mustangs at home next Saturday night at 7 p.m. on Alumni Field.
On Saturday, Lancer quarterback Dan Carloni received his first ever start and got the crowd of over 3,100 fans excited early with a long touchdown strike to open the game.
Carloni connected on a 79-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Brescacin on his second throw of the game to give the Lancers the only score of the first quarter and a 7-0 lead.
The second quarter went back and forth and didn't see any scoring until 2:55 left in the second quarter when Kamar Anglin punched the football into the end zone with a six-yard run to put the Lancers 14-0 at the end of the first half.
Fellow rusher Paul Lefaive was also key in the second quarter as he put together a solid performance that saw him gain 69 yards to lead the Lancers in that department at the half.
The Lancers increased their lead to 16-0 after three quarters of play on a touchback that was conceded by the Varsity Blues at 6:30 of the quarter.
Lefaive continued his outstanding rushing performance in the fourth with a 44-yard touchdown run early in the quarter to put Windsor ahead 23-0.
The Lancers continued to roll as Carloni led the offence on a 40-yard charge that was capped off by a two-yard run by Anglin for his second touchdown of the night.
The Varsity Blues would tack on a field goal with one second to play in the game to break the shutout and put the final score at 30-3 in favour of Windsor.
For the Lancers, Paul Lefaive finished with an impressive 148 rushing yards on 18 carries and a touchdown in the victory. Kamar Anglin added 53 rushing yards of his own on the ground with a pair of touchdowns.
Carloni finished 7-of-13 passing for 163 yards and one touchdown.
Windsor heads into next Saturday's "Battle at the Bridge" against the Western Mustangs with a 2-0 record and looking to keep the win streak alive.
