YORK FOOTBALL SELF-DISCLOSES INELIGIBLE PLAYER
The player's participation was in violation of Rule 40.10.5.4.2 of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) By-laws, Policies & Procedures, which states that "a student-athlete who transfers from one CIS member institution team to another member institution team after having been assessed one year of eligibility, must not participate in any competition (conference or non-conference) for a period of one year in the recognized sport of CIS in which such athlete participated at the previous CIS institution in order to be eligible for CIS participation."
Patrick Hooey was a member of the Saint Mary's Huskies of Atlantic University Sport (AUS) during the 2008 football season. Mr. Hooey transferred to York University intending to enrol in a graduate program, which would make him eligible to play for the York Lions in 2009 under CIS Rule 40.10.3.5.1. Mr. Hooey, however, opted to enrol as a full-time undergraduate student, making him ineligible for 2009.
The result of Monday's game, a 17-14 victory for the Windsor Lancers, remains the same. All statistics from this game remain valid, except for those of the ineligible player.
The matter remains under review by CIS which has the option to impose further sanctions.
All media inquires regarding this discloser should be made to York director of athletics Jennifer Myers.
