NO. 8 GAELS TOP VARSITY BLUES IN OUA PRE-SEASON FOOTBALL
TORONTO - The No. 8 nationally-ranked Queen's Gaels earned a 33-6 pre-season victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Monday night at Varsity Stadium.
Jimmy Therrien (Montreal), Thomas Howes (Parham, Ont.) and Ryan Granberg (Sherwood Park, Alta) each recorded a single touchdown in the victory. Therrien and Grandberg scored on a two and 16-yard run respectively while Howes caught a one-yard pass from quarterback Danny Brannagan (picutred) of Burlington, Ont.
The Gaels defence also contributed four points with Toronto surrendering two safeties.
Queen's officially starts the 2009 regular season with its home opener against the Guelph Gryphons next Monday (Sept. 7). Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. with tickets available by calling 613-533-2500
NOTES: In 2008 Queen's finished the OUA regular season unbeaten at 8-0 while Toronto was 2-6... Queen's improves to a 3-1 record in pre-season contests over the past four-years.
