RAMS ANNOUNCE NEW MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH
Glenn is no stranger to CIS basketball as he brings with him 15 years of CIS head
coaching experience at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Glenn first started
coaching the women's team at Memorial which he did for six years. During that time period he moved the team from the college league to the CIS. Glenn coached the men's team from 1991-2000. He took the lowest ranked team in the CIS in 1991 to being ranked fourth in the CIS in 1996-97. During his tenure, Glenn was twice named as the AUS Coach of the Year and was a runner-up in 1996-97 for CIS Coach of the Year. Glenn holds a Master of Physical Education from Memorial and he is a Level IV NCCP certified coach. He is also a NCCP basketball course conductor. Glenn earned a B.Sc. from Acadia University and was a member of the men's basketball team where he was named a first team AUS all-star in 1975.
"In Glenn we are getting someone who is the total package," said Terry Haggerty,
Ryerson's manager, interuniversity sport. "He is a proven winner and he has twice shown that he can build a solid basketball program at a university. He has tremendous experience and knowledge of what it takes to work within the university environment and be successful. He has been involved with all aspects of a basketball program and will be a great asset in our fund-raising initiatives that will go towards improving our bursaries for our student-athletes. Glenn is a great teacher of the game and a firm believer in recruiting and developing quality student-athletes. In hiring Glenn it will also give an assistant coach a chance to work with a very experienced leader who has a vast knowledge of CIS
basketball We are all so pleased to have him join our coaching staff".
In accepting the Ryerson coaching position, Taylor explained,"It is an excellent
opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream. Ryerson has a great opportunity to do very well and it will be an excellent challenge coaching in a conference that presently boasts the CIS champions and other nationally ranked teams. With Ryerson being in downtown Toronto, we are located in the middle of what probably has to be the largest pool of basketball talent in the country. This pool exists because of the many excellent high school and club coaches in the area. My challenge will be to get all of these coaches and players to understand that Ryerson has so much to offer. Given Ryerson's many quality and diverse academic programs combined with the obvious strong support that men's basketball has from the Ryerson's Sports and Recreation management, I believe we have all the tools necessary to attract quality student-athletes and build a championship
program".
In Newfoundland Glenn was also very involved with the province's Canada Games
program. Since his move to Ontario he has coached for four years within the Basketball Ontario's club program.
