Team captain Michael Smart once again proved he is the true leader of the great Ravens men's basketball team this weekend at the 2005 Final 10 in Halifax. The fifth-year guard received his second straight Jack Donohue Trophy as tournament MVP as he helped Carleton capture a third consecutive W.P. McGee Trophy.
Named to the first all-Canadian team for the first time prior to the championship, Smart averaged 13.3 points, five assists and 2.3 rebounds in the Ravens three wins in three nights at the Metro Centre.
The Ravens defeated Ottawa 69-47, StFX 67-65 in the semi-final round, and Concordia 68-48 in the gold medal game to become the third team in CIS history, and the first since the 1988-89 Brandon Bobcats, to win three straight national titles in men's basketball. Carleton also extended its regular-season and post-season winning streak to 78 games.
