WATERLOO EDGES BROCK AS HOOPS SEASON TIPS OFF
The Laurentian Voyageurs started on a positive note by edging out the York Lions 85-82 at the Tait Mackenzie Centre. Fiver Laurentian players hit double figures in pints, including Matt Brown, who had 20. Brown hit four three pointers, with the Voyageurs going 11-for-18 from the behind the arc on the game. Brody Bishop had a game-high eight assists for the winners. Daniel Eaves poured in 298 points for York, while Tut Ruach added 23.
The Windsor Lancers were the only team to play twice in the opening week, beginning with a lopsided 84-44 win over the Western Mustangs. Kevin Kloostra had 17 for the Lancers, while Greg Allin and Trevor Boose added 13 each. Windsor wasn’t as productive Saturday, going down to the Laurier Golden Hawks 71-61. Fourth-year nig man Rob Innes led Laurier with 13 points and seven rebounds. Ryan Steer paced Windsor with 17 points, while Detroit native Hoy Monk had 10 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, leaving him a board short of a triple-double.
