POSEY HITS GAME WINNER
The Thunderwolves swept the weekend series Saturday night with a 78-65 win. Seely and Posey again led the Thunder Bay squad, with Seely scoring 23 (5-of-7 three-point shooting) and Posey adding 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Once again Boose led the Lancers with 25 points. The fourth-year guard is currently fifth in OUA scoring with 17.56 points per game. Lakehead moves to 9-7 and in sole position of fourth place, while Windsor drops 5-11, two games out of the final playoff spot.
BADGERS TAKE GAME ONE OF BROMAC CUP
The fourth-ranked Brock Badgers used a 15-0 run in the second half to gain a 19-point advantage over the McMaster Marauders as the Badgers took the first game of the annual BroMac Cup in convincing fashion, 88-68. Brock, winners of their last five, were paced by Kevin Steinstra's 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. Morgan Fairweather added 18 in the win. The Badgers are within one game of first place in the OUA West, as Waterloo sits atop with a 14-2 record. McMaster's inside posts, Adam Guiney and Adam Steiner led the Marauders with 24 and 12 points respectively. McMaster, who dropped their first game in four outings, fall to two games out of second place in the OUA West.
LAURIER HOLDS ONTO 63-60 WIN
In a back and forth battle against the Western Mustangs, the Laurier Golden Hawks held on for the 63-60 win to move into fifth place of the OUA West. With several lead changes throughout the game, the last two minutes saw Western holding onto a three-point lead. Golden Hawk Wade Currie then hit the team's first and only three-pointer of the day to tie the game at 60. Laurier's full court pressure then forced three consecutive Western turnovers, which were converted for a lay-up and 1-of-2 from the foul line, both by Bert Riviere, sealing the victory for the Hawks. Todd Cooney and Rob Innes led the Hawks with 11 points a piece, while Matt Curtis and Bradley Smith each scored 14 to lead the Mustangs.
WATERLOO TAKES TOUGH ROAD WIN
The first place Waterloo Warriors were held scoreless for the last three minutes of the game, before Guelph fell just short of a comeback as the sixth ranked squad squeezed out the 65-64 win. In an intense match-up that featured two ejections, the Warriors gained a seven-point lead, before failing to score the rest of the way. Guelph's comeback came down to a J.S. Esposito shot from the corner in the dying seconds that fell off the mark. Graham Jarman finished with 15 points for the Warriors, while teammate Chris Edwards pulled down 11 rebounds. For the Gryphons, Jeff Rosar notched a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds.
GREIG PUSHES VOYAGEURS OVER WINLESS RAMS
Andrew Greig's three-point shot with 1.9 seconds remaining, propelled his Laurentian Voyageurs to a 75-73 win over the Ryerson Rams. In what could have been Ryerson first win in 41 games, the Rams overcame a 35-27 halftime deficit to lead by one, before Greig's successful game winner. Greig led the Sudbury team with 18 points, as four of the five starters scored in double figures. For the Rams, Duane Benjamin netted 17 of his game-high 20 points at the free throw line. Ryerson also had four players in double figures. Laurentian is currently in the sixth and final playoff spot in the OUA East.
VISITING RAVENS PACK OUT GAELS' GYM
In front of the largest crowd in Queen's basketball history, the Gaels were unable to keep pace with the two-time defending OUA and CIS Champion Carleton Ravens, falling 83-53. More than 1400 fans packed the stands in Bartlett Gym Saturday night for the highly anticipated game, which featured four local players on the visiting Ravens. Carleton's Jean-Emmanuel Jean-Marie led all scorers with 20 points, while Kingston local Aaron Doornekamp netted 13. Neal Dawson led the Gaels with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
OTTAWA FINALLY WINS ON SECOND NIGHT OF BACK-TO-BACK
It took five back-to-back weekend series, but the Ottawa Gee-Gees finally won on the second night of action, sweeping their weekend series in Kingston. Ottawa defeated Queen's 67-61 Friday night, before downing RMC 72-43. Marko Jovic's 6-of-8 shooting led the Gee-Gees with 13 points, with Curtis Shakespeare adding 12 of his own, on 6-of-10 shooting. Ottawa also held last year's OUA East Player of the Year, Kevin Dulude to just 10 points (almost 9 points below his season average) and five rebounds (over five rebounds below his season average).
