RYERSON TAKES FIRST WIN IN 43 GAMES
The win marks Ryerson head coach Patrick Williams first OUA victory. The last OUA league/playoff game the Rams won was back on February 28, 2003 when Ryerson downed Laurentian 85-67 in the first round of OUA playoffs.
LAURENTIAN UPSETS OTTAWA
The Laurentian Voyageurs upset the Ottawa Gee-Gees 63-60 this weekend in Sudbury, as veteran Voyageur Andrew Greig nailed three baskets from behind the arc in the final two minutes of play. The Gee-Gees had two attempts fall short in the last thirteen seconds of play as Laurentian walked away with the win. Greig finished the night with a game-high 20 points. For the Gee-Gees, Alex McLeod and Gregory Sam scored 11 a piece.
Laurentian has sealed up the sixth and final playoff spot. Ottawa remains in a tie with Queen's for third place in the OUA East. The Gee-Gees could finish anywhere from third to fifth.
EVES DRAINS GAME WINNER
Ottawa lost for the second time this weekend by a three-point margin, falling 75-72 to the York Lions. Forward Dan Eves knocked down a three-pointer with 15.4 seconds remaining to secure the Lions victory. Eves led all scorers with 28 points and 10 rebounds, while fellow forward Jordan Foebel added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Curtis Shakespeare led Ottawa with 17 points, with Dax Dessureault netting 15.
BADGERS ROLL OVER LANCERS
The #2 Brock Badgers rolled over the visiting Windsor Lancers 82-63 this weekend and remain one game behind the OUA West leading Waterloo Warriors. The Badgers opened their game against the Lancers with a 10-0 run and led by 20 at the half. The Badgers defense kept the Lancers to just 18.5% from the field (5-for-27) in the first half. Kevin Steinstra finished with yet another double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds. Morgan Fairweather added 18, on 7 of 12 shooting. For the Lancers, Al Mujacic netted 18.
GUINEY TAKES CONTROL IN MAC VICTORY
The McMaster Marauders downed their OUA West rivals, the Western Mustangs, 81-73 Saturday afternoon as part of Marauder weekend festivities on the Hamilton campus. With the game tied 60-60 with six minutes to play, 2003-04 OUA West Player of the Year, Adam Guiney took control, scoring eight straight Marauder points to put the game out of hand. Guiney, an all-Canadian last year, finished the day with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Martin Ajayi added 21 for Mac. Bradley Smith's 10-of-18 shooting, for 23 points led the Mustangs who fell to 4-14 on the season.
#6 WATERLOO SWEEPS LAKEHEAD
The sixth-ranked Waterloo Warriors swept the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves this weekend, defeating the Thunder Bay team 68-53 Friday night and 97-63 on Saturday night.
In Saturday's contest, Waterloo's top scorer Graham Jarman led the Warriors with 15 points in the half, OUA leading scorer Kiraan Posey provided just two points in four minutes of play as he picked up two early fouls and sat on the bench the rest of the half. Posey returned to form in the second half and finished with a team-high 19 points. Jarman finished the day with 26 points, going 10-of-11 from the field on an incredible display of shooting accuracy. The only shot Jarman missed all day was a three-point attempt.
QUEEN'S SNAPS LOSING STREAK
The Queen's Golden Gaels snapped their three-game losing streak on Friday night by defeated the Ryerson Rams, 52-43. Neal Dawson recorded a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Krupa finished the day with 11 points for the Rams.
