FIVE OUA TEAMS GEAR UP FOR RAPTOR INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT
RIT is an initiative spearheaded by the Toronto Raptors Basketball Development department, geared to promoting the high-calibre of university and college basketball programs in the country. In 2004, the RIT officially became Canada’s largest preseason tournament.
“The Raptors Invitational Tournament has become one of the highlights of the Raptors’ preseason schedule,” said John Lashway, senior vice-president, communications and community development. “We are excited to welcome teams from across the country and provide a unique experience for Canadian student-athletes.”
A total of 16 teams, representing both men and women from across Canada, will participate in the three-day event. The men’s bracket will take place at Humber College while the women’s side will be held at Ryerson University. Preliminary rounds will be played at the campus athletic centres October 28 and 29. Raptors NBA TV will again broadcast the tournament championships Sunday, October 30 live from Air Canada Centre, immediately following the Raptors Fan Fest, presented by SPRITE®.
Last season, University of British Columbia defeated McMaster, 62-52, in the women’s tournament championship while the Carleton Ravens men’s team defeated Humber College, 75-58.
