OUA FOOTBALL AWARD WINNER QUICK FACTS
Joshua Sacobie (Fredericton, NB), University of Ottawa's fourth-year quarterback, finished first in the OUA regular season with 2,320 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He led an offence that averaged 460 yards per game, occupied the top spot in the OUA and placed second in the country.
The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks defense were led by Anthony Maggiacomo (Waterloo, Ont.), the OUA's top tackler. He totaled 60.5 tackles, 49 of which were solo tackles, and recorded one sack and one interception on the season. These figures place Maggiacomo at fourth place amongst the CIS defensive leaders.
Tackle Scott Evans (Cambridge, Ont.) of Laurier was signed as a free agent with the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts in January of this year. Evans is an OUA Offensive All-Star for the second consecutive year and also received a CIS Second-Team All-Canadian nod in 2006.
Mike Goncalves (Toronto, Ont.) of the University of Toronto is a fifth-year Varsity Blue who recorded 10.5 tackles, 10 of which were solo in five games this season. Goncalves was drafted in the sixth round, 41 overall, by the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the 2007 CFL Draft.
McMaster University's Ryan Chmielewski (St. Catharines, Ont.), a rookie linebacker for the Marauders, had an outstanding breakout season in the OUA totaling 40 tackles, including 35 solo tackles. As the top tackler for McMaster, Chmielewski's 2007 performance placed him 14 on the OUA defensive leaders list.
Coach Pat Sheahan of Queen's University led the Gaels to a 6-2 regular season record this season, including a four game winning streak to start their 2007 campaign. His offense finished in fourth place in the country, averaging 448.75 yards per game, while his defense placed fifth in the country, allowing an average of 288 yards per game.
