NO.7 LAURIER KNOCKS OFF NO.9 LANCERS WHILE WESTERN STARTS SEASON 0-2
A Kevin Reider (Markham, Ontario) field goal at 1:40 into the first quarter gave the No.9 Lancers a 3-0 lead, but that would be the only lead they would see in the game as the No. 7 Golden Hawks came roaring back to take the win 48-17 this past weekend at Knight-Newbrough Field.
Laurier did a phenomenal job defensively keeping 2006 Hec Crighton winner Daryl Stephenson (London, Ontario) to just 42 yards on 11 attempts and no touchdowns.
Golden Hawks pivot Ian Noble (West Vancouver, British Columbia) had a near perfect night completing 25 from 29 attempts for 385 yards and two touchdowns. The single-game performance puts him ahead of Ryan Pyear (329), Adam Lane (312) in the record books and behind athletes Bill Kubas (480) and Kevin MacDonald (500). Last weeks OUA Athlete of the Week, Ryan Lynch (Waterloo, Ontario) also kept up his stride rushing for 147 yards on 26 attempts for three touchdowns.
Week three sees the No.7 Golden Hawks travel to Toronto for a Friday night match up against the Varsity Blues, while the No.9 Lancers host Waterloo at home.
