SCOTT FAWCETT NAMED ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH OF LANCER FOOTBALL PROGRAM
A native of Fort Frances, Ontario, Fawcett was most recently an assistant coach, running backs coach and special teams coordinator in 2005 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League.
“We’re very fortunate to have Scott on board as our Associate Head Coach,” commented Lancer Football Head Coach Mike Morencie. “His experience in coaching all facets of the game is something we are very excited about and we look forward to utilizing all of his talents with our program.”
In his 20 plus seasons in coaching, Scott has captured both Vanier Cup and Grey Cup Championships and been part of ten championship programs in the CFL, CIS Football, American College, Canadian Junior Football and High School.
In 1999, he was the Special Teams coordinator and receivers coach with the Grey Cup Champions Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In 1997 and 1998, he was the Special Teams coordinator and running back coach with the Edmonton Eskimos.
Prior to joining the Blue Bombers, Fawcett served as the Head Football Coach of the Mount Allison University Mounties from 2002 to 2004. In 2001, he served as the Assistant Head Coach at Rocky Mountain College, an NAIA school in Billings, Montana. At Rocky Mountain College, Fawcett worked as the Offensive Coordinator and receivers coach.
In addition to his CIS Football experience at Mount Allison, Fawcett also served as the defensive coordinator at the University of Calgary in 1985 when they won the Vanier Cup, defeating Western in the national final. Five players off of his defensive unit went on to play in the CFL, including Kent Warnock who was the first overall pick in the 1986 CFL draft.
With the Lancers, Fawcett will play a key role in coaching all three facets of the game as well as lead recruiting and fundraising initiatives for the football program.
“We are very pleased to be able to appoint Scott as the Associate Head Coach of the Lancer Football program,” commented Director of Athletics Gord Grace. “Scott has a tremendous background in football in both the CIS and CFL that will help elevate our program moving forward.”
2006 Hec Crighton Award winner Daryl Stephenson says the team is excited to have Coach Fawcett come to the University of Windsor.
“Coach Fawcett is an experienced coach who has tremendous knowledge in all areas of the game,” said Stephenson. “We’re all looking forward to working with him and having him help the program achieve our goal of winning the Yates Cup.”
