MARAUDERS DOWNS VARSITY BLUES IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
HAMILTON, Ont. - First-year forward Nicole Rosenkranz (Niagara Falls, Ont.) netted a game-high 25 points to lead the McMaster Marauders (5-3) to a 83-71 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues (4-5) in a rescheduled women's basketball game.
Both teams traded baskets in the early going with the first quarter ending in a 17-17 deadlock. The Marauders pulled in front in the second quarter, taking a 42-36 lead into the locker room.
The Marauders added to their advantage in the third quarter, outscoring the Varsity Blues 25-14 to take a 67-50 advantage. The Varsity Blues scored the Marauders in the fourth quarter by a 21-16 margin, but the Marauders hung on for the win.
Rosenkranz also contributed 13 rebounds for a double-double. Other high-scorers for the Marauders were third-year guard Rebecca Rewi (Ancaster, Ont.) with 14 points, and third-year forward Taylor Chiarot (Hamilton, Ont.) with 10.
Fourth-year forward Nicki Schutz (Toronto) led the Varsity Blues with a 25-point effort, sharing game-high honours with Rosenkranz.
The game was originally postponed due to OUA's H1N1 policy.
