NESBITT RETURNS TO WOLVES W-BASKETBALL ROSTER
Nesbitt will rejoin the Wolves this week and wear jersey No. 9. She will not be playing with the Wolves this weekend in Hamilton against McMaster but will hit the court the following weekend when the Wolves host the Brock Badgers in Thunder Bay.
The Thunder Bay native has been acting as an assistant coach for the Wolves during the first half of the season as she had thought she was retired due to injuries incurred and the physical breakdown caused from four years of playing varsity hoops in her trademark never-say-die manner. However, her health has improved significantly and she is ready to return to the hardwood again for the Wolves.
Coach Kreiner said Nesbitt's return will be a big boost for the Wolves as they enter the second half.
"Amanda Nesbitt's return will give our team a lift. She will give us an even deeper bench and will provide us with toughness, leadership, experience and is a very intelligent player. Amanda has always gotten the most out what she has physically as there is not a player that will ever outwork her or play with more heart and determination. Our team and coaching staff have embraced Amanda's return with open arms as we know what she brings to the table each and every night".
After she finished play last season, and was thought be have stepped down as a player due to injuries, Lakehead women's basketball assistant coach Lou Pero made a new award named in her honour given annually to the Lakehead player who is 100-percent-committed to the program; a selfless player who gives everything she has to every practice and game; and who best exemplifies all the qualities that Nesbitt showed during her (now first) four years as a Lakehead basketball player. Nesbitt was, of course, the first winner of the new award and now, uniquely, may have a shot at winning her own namesake trophy for a second time.
