OUA W-BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: NO. 2 LANCERS IMPROVE TO 18-1 ON STRENGTH OF PEKLOVA DOUBLE-DOUBLE
With the win, the Lancers move to 18-1 on the season and sit in first place in the OUA West Division standings.
On Wednesday night, the Marauders (12-7) came out on fire as they converted on a number of early scoring opportunities in building a 19-13 first quarter lead.
Windsor would respond to the challenge in the second quarter as they picked up their defensive intensity to cut into the Marauders lead. The Lancers held to McMaster to only six points in the quarter and as they took a 26-25 lead into half.
In the second half, the depth and offensive talent of the Lancers took over as McMaster had no answer for post Peklova (Prague, Czech Republic). She grabbed an impressive eight offensive rebounds and converted consistently in the post as the Lancers built a 10-point third quarter lead.
The two teams traded baskets in the fourth quarter but the game was never in doubt as Windsor cruised to the 64-56 victory.
Peklova led the Lancers with 13 points and 15 rebounds while Alisa Wulff (Pickering, Ont.) added 13 points and five rebounds. Dranadia Roc (Montreal, Que.) chipped in with 10 points and four assists while Shavaun Reaney (Sherwood Park, Alta.) finished with nine points and five rebounds.
McMaster's Taylor Smith (Hamilton, Ont.) had a game-high 17 points in a losing effort.

GUELPH 75, LAURIER 62
WATERLOO, Ont. – Five players from the Guelph Gryphons (8-11) hit double digits as the visitors defeated the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 75-62 at the Athletic Complex.
The first quarter saw the Golden Hawks (9-10) net the first basket before the Gryphons went on a run and built up a 10-point lead only to see the home team fight back and bring the match to within one by the end of the first. The trend continued in the second as Guelph again developed a 10-point lead, only to see the Golden Hawks hold them without a basket for the final six minutes and tie the game 36-36 going into the break.
Guelph started the second half by again tightening up their defence and going on a scoring run to extend their lead back to 10. This time the better defensive schemes kept the Hawks at bay, while the visitors capitalized on Laurier turnovers. Guelph scored 21 points in the quarter, while the Hawks managed 17. In the final frame, the Gryphons extended their lead and really took advantage of their shooting consistency. Guelph shot 49.1 percent from the floor in the match to the Hawks 38.1 percent. The visitors outscored the home team 18-9 in the final quarter to earn the victory.
The Golden Hawks committed 18 turnovers to the Gryphons 11 and the visitors were able to gain 19 points off of them.
Laurier's Aleksa Brkic (Mississauga, Ont.) hit 6-of-8 shots from three-point land to score a career-high 20 points in the loss, while second year post player Christa Mancino (Port Colborne, Ont.) put down 16. Top scorer for the Gryphons was Morgan Jean (Sarnia, Ont.) with 13 followed by Kris Yallin (Port Colborne, Ont.), Ali Dzikowski (Brantford, Ont.) and Rachel Hancock (Ingersoll, Ont.) all with 12. Samantha Russell (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) picked up a double-double with 10 rebounds and 11 points.

WATERLOO 62, BROCK 59
WATERLOO, Ont. - The Brock Badgers women's basketball team (6-13) were narrowly defeated by the Waterloo Warriors 62-59 on the road Wednesday night. This was the Badgers eighth consecutive loss.
The Badgers found themselves down 20-10 after one quarter and trailed by just three at the half 36-33.
Leading the Badgers was senior Lauren Stewart (Hamilton, Ont.) who led all players with a game-high 18 points. Junior Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) contributed with 13 points and seven rebounds.
For the Warriors (7-12), Laura Becotte (Thunder Bay, Ont.) led the way registering a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Also in double digits was Felishia Watson (Waterloo, Ont.) who recorded 11 points and five rebounds in the victory.
From the floor, the Badgers were 21-of-71 (29.6 percent) while Waterloo shot 39.3 percent (22-of-56) from the field. The Warriors also out-rebounded Brock 50-35.
