Lions top Ravens, advance to OUA men's soccer final
West division rookie of the year and MVP Jonathan Lao (Unionville, Ont.) scored the game-winner in the 71st minute to lift the Lions to victory. Lao applied pressure to Ravens goalkeeper Travis Chase (Calgary, Alta.) and the keeper mishandled a bouncing ball, sending Lao in all alone on an empty net.
York opened the scoring ten minutes earlier in the 61st minute when Dylan Sacramento (Unionville, Ont.) buried one past Chase.
The lead was short-lived, however, as five minutes later the Carleton Ravens tied the score at ones. Michael Calof (Ottawa, Ont.) delivered a high free ball from nearly 50 yards out which found the head of Andrew Latty (Ottawa, Ont.) who found the back of the net.
The Lions outshot the Ravens 8-3 on the afternoon and continued to apply pressure late in the game to deny Carleton a chance at the comeback.
York will play in Sunday’s OUA championship game at 2:00 p.m. while the Ravens will battle for bronze at 11:00 a.m.
