October 13
Queen’s 2 at Ryerson 4
TORONTO – It may have been senior’s day on Sunday at Monarch Park Stadium, but sophomore Luka Lee (Toronto) stole the show for the Rams in a 4-2 victory over the Queen’s Gaels.
Lee scored his first two goals of the season, including the game-winner, just three minutes apart from each other to lead the Rams to their 11th win of the season.
With the win, the No. 2 nationally ranked Rams (11-0-1) have clinched first place in the OUA east division standings with two games remaining in the regular season.
Ryerson and Queen’s battled through the rain and played a scoreless game for 75 minutes until a Viktor Anastasov (Toronto) cross was mishandled by the Gaels and deflected for an own goal.
Lee then scored a minute after the own goal and in a span of four minutes the Rams suddenly found themselves leading by three.
Anastasov added an insurance marker in the 87th minute following some fancy footwork from Armin Tankovic (Mississauga, Ont.).
Queen’s showed no signs of quitting, however, as they scored twice in injury time to make the score a respectable 4-2 final. Lucas Lobo (Kingston, Ont.) scored the Gaels’ first goal and then Joseph Zupo (Toronto) converted a penalty kick.
Prior to the game the Rams honoured their graduating players Alex Braletic, Michael and Luke Jan,
Armin Tankovic, Viktor Anastasov, Sebastian Novais and Jacob O’Connor for their Ryerson careers at their last home game of the regular season.
Ryerson will return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 16 when they take on the Trent Excalibur in Peterborough at 8:15 p.m.

Laurier 0 at Western 1
LONDON, Ont. – The Western men's soccer team battled the Laurier Golden Hawks to a 1-0 victory this afternoon on Huron Flats Field. With the win, the Mustangs take a fifth-place ranking in the OUA West division standings and improve their record to 6-6-2.
In contrast to the high-scoring women's game before it, the men's matchup remained scoreless until late in the second half. It was a midfield game as neither team tested the opposition's goalie with only five combined shots on net from both teams in the first half. Laurier recorded the first shot on goal with only eight minutes left in the half, while the Mustangs entered the break without an official shot on goal as both teams remained scoreless.
The Mustangs were first on the attack after the break with their first shot on goal coming from ChukaOnonye less than five minutes into the half. Laurier almost scored the first goal of the match when a shot narrowly missed the mesh as it bounced off the goal post. Western responded with an opportunity of its own trading the ball on an offensive attack with the shot going just wide. Gustavo Ruthes would finish the job, getting the goal and the win for the Mustangs as he netted the team's only goal with just six minutes left in play when he was able to tip in the ball after a scramble in front of the Golden Hawks net.
Despite strong opportunities for the Golden Hawks in the second half, Western goalie Adam Majer was able to keep Laurier off the board for the shutout as the game ended with a final score of 1-0 for the Mustangs.
The Western squad hits the field again on Oct. 19 when they travel to Waterloo to face the Warriors as OUA soccer action continues.

Heading into their final weekend of play, the Lancers are 6-2-6 on the year and in fourth place in the West Division.
In both contests, the Lancers held a 1-0 lead for a majority of the game before the visitors tied it up late to spoil the Windsor victory.
Against Brock, the Lancers got off to a quick start scoring in the 13th minute, when Mayorga finished off a great pass by forward Iyowuna Jumbo.
Salinitri had a great chance to double the lead late in the first half after his initial shot was blocked, but he sent the rebound over the net.
The Badgers had a few chances to get on the board in the first half, but didn't manage to tie the game until the 52nd minute when Omar Hamadi slotted the ball past the Olagbegi.
The Badgers were forced deep into their own half as the Lancers applied pressure and pushed for the goal that would give them all three points.
In the 70th minute a John Bahdi volley forced the Badger keeper Noah Mar into a fantastic save, while Woods-Henry also had a chance to win the game when a miss-kicked cross almost caught Mar out of his net.

Laurier 2 at York 2
Jonathan Lao (Unionville, Ont.) continued his amazing debut season for the No. 3 York University Lions men's soccer team on Saturday (Oct. 12), notching two goals on the day to maintain a 2-2 draw with the Laurier Golden Hawks at York Stadium.
Lao now has a team leading 10 goals on the season, which is good enough for second in the OUA. The Lions move to 10-2-1 with the draw, and second in the OUA West.
It was York whom would threaten first, as Lao fired his first shot at Golden Hawks goaltender Brett Harrington (Tillsonburg, Ont.) in the 19th minute to force a tough save.
The Lions continued to chip away with Carlos Nogueira (Brampton, Ont.) orchestrating a perfect crossing attempt in the 28th minute, as he deked his way through multiple Laurier defenders on his way to the net. But again, Harringston was there to shut the door on the scoring opportunity.
But York's frustrations began to show, and they appeared to fall a step behind the Golden Hawks tempo. Capitalizing on their distraction, Laurier increased their pressure and would earn an opportune free kick in front of the Lions goal.
Taking the kick for Laurier was Donald Chmura (Waterloo, Ont.), who would challenge York's defensive shield with a straight ahead power shot that found its way into the back of the net. The goal put Laurier ahead 1-0 at the 38-minute mark.
The Lions approach changed in the second half, as the focus appeared to be on utilizing their speed to the outside. Ben Futoriansky (Richmond Hill, Ont.) would attack wide on the rush and launch a beautiful crossing pass into the middle. There to receive was Lao, who buried the ball into the back of the net for his first goal, tying the game 1-1.
Sticking with their strength, York continued to win the speed game. Joseph Cicchillo (North York, Ont.) out-ran defenders the entire second half to earn multiple chances, including a heartbreaking rocket in the 65th minute that barely missed the net.
But the Lions had the edge and Lao added his second goal of the game in the 68th minute when again he beat Harrington with a beautiful shot to give the Lions the lead, 2-1.
The advantage would prove short lived however, as a costly York penalty inside the 18 yard box awarded Chmura a penalty kick in the 79th minute of play. Chmura would convert, earning his second goal of the game and restoring a draw at 2-2.
Lao continued to impress late, nearly having a hat-trick in the game when Harrington had to double clutch his hard shot attempt that almost trickled in. But time would eventually lapse on the 2-2 score.
The men's soccer team will travel to Oshawa, Ont., on Wednesday (Oct. 16) to face the UOIT Ridgebacks at 8:00 p.m. The Lions return to York Stadium Saturday (Oct. 19) when they host the Windsor Lancers at 3:15 p.m.

Trent 3 at Laurentian 2
The Laurentian Voyageurs men’s soccer team was looking for redemption from their Friday game when they faced the Trent Excalibur on Saturday at the James Jerome Sport Complex in Sudbury. The men fought hard against their opponent, however were down 2-3 at the end of the 90 minutes, giving Trent their second win of the season.
The Laurentian Voyageurs started the game with a good level of intensity, and were able to work the ball throughout the field, and around their opponents for a majority of the first half. The Voyageurs opened the scoring first, when captain Stephen Fattore (Brampton, ON) dribbled through Trent’s defenders and beat their goalkeeper on a bottom corner shot. This created momentum for the Voyageurs, as they registered four more shots on net, and earned four corners throughout the half. Unfortunately Laurentian was unable to keep their lead, as William Horton (Orangeville, ON) scored Trent’s first just before the end of the half, putting the game at 1-1 to start the second.
The second half was a battle for possession between both teams. The Voyageurs took the lead for the second time of the game when Ason Harry (Toronto, ON) scored at the 57th minute. However, Trent was quick to counter, and earned a penalty shot just two minutes later. Joshua Connell-Onoh, also from Toronto, buried the shot, equalizing the game at 2-2 with 30 minutes to go. The Voyageurs were able to put Trent under pressure, however they were unable to find the back of the net in the remaining minutes of the game. On their part, Trent capitalized on a corner at the 75 minute, and kept the lead until the final whistle, beating the Laurentian squad 3-2.
The men will be travelling to Kingston to face the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday Oct. 18 at 2:15 p.m.

RMC 1 at Ryerson 2
TORONTO – The No. 2 nationally ranked Ryerson Rams men’s soccer team is one step closer to clinching first place in the OUA east standings after posting a 2-1 victory over the RMC Paladins on Saturday afternoon.
Viktor Anastasov (Toronto) opened the scoring in the 11th minute after receiving a pass just outside the 18 yard box, turning and firing a strike to the bottom left corner which beat the RMC keeper cleanly.
RMC scratched out a goal six minutes later when Curtis Brown (Ottawa, Ont.) tapped home a loose ball during a scramble in the Rams’ box to tie the game at 1-1 after 17 minutes.
The OUA and CIS leading goal scorer, Alex Braletic (Thornhill, Ont.), added to his totals with his 13th goal of the year in the 65th minute to give the Rams a 2-1 lead, one which they would not relinquish.
The Rams may be piling up the wins but the coaching staff is still not convinced the Rams are playing up to their full potential and are working on finding ways to reach that next level.
“We have our systems but we’re always looking to add to that,” said associate coach Fil Prostran following the game. “When we play a good team they’re going to see who’s scoring all the goals...and we need to think of what’s ‘Plan B’. We’re working on a more dynamic attack and limiting the mistakes on defence.”
RMC’s Sully Heraud (Montreal, Que.) was forced to leave the game in just the third minute of action with a suspected broken bone in his foot.
The Rams (10-0-1) can clinch the first place seed in the OUA East with just a single victory in their final three games. Ryerson can do so as early as Sunday when they return to the pitch to take on the Queen’s Gaels at 2:15 p.m. at Monarch Park.

Brock 1 at Western 5
LONDON Ont. – Four first half goals helped the Western Mustangs men's soccer team pick up a 5-1 victory over the Brock Badgers on Saturday afternoon at Huron Flats Field.
Second-year forward Christian Douglas led the Mustangs offence with two goals in the win, while Alex Lewis, Jovan Ivanovich, and Jon Sarjeant added a goal each.
It was the second matchup of the season for the two sides with Western picking up a 3-1 win late last month in St. Catharines.
Saturday's victory gives the Mustangs a 5-6-2 record, while the Badgers fall to 1-9-3 on the season.
The Mustangs opened up the scoring immediately as Douglas drew a foul in the 18-yard box just two minutes into the game. Lewis took the penalty shot and put the Mustangs on the scoreboard.
With a 1-0 advantage, the Mustangs continued to press the Badgers defence and their efforts did not go unrecognized as Ivanovich netted a second goal at the 20 minute mark. The purple and white gave the Badgers very little time to respond before Douglas added a third goal just 11 minutes later.
The Badgers battled hard to try and pressure the Mustangs defence and cut the Mustangs lead, and in the 35th minute they were able to do so as YavIlic found the back of the Mustangs net to put the Badgers on the board.
Unfortunately for the Badgers Western was able to respond just moments later when Sarjeant racked up the team's fourth goal and gave the Mustangs a three goal advantage going into the break.
The Mustangs opened the second half of the contest much like the first - with points to the scoreboard. Just three minutes in Douglas netted his second goal of the game to further the Mustangs advantage 5-1. The Badgers powered up their offensive force and pressured the Mustangs in their end of the field, looking to take advantage of some scoring opportunities. Despite their efforts, the Badgers were unable to making it a 5-1 final in favour of the Mustangs.
The Mustangs are back in action Saturday, Oct. 13, as they face the Laurier Golden Hawks at 1:00 p.m. at Western's Huron Flats Field.

In both contests, the Lancers held a 1-0 lead for a majority of the game before the visitors tied it up late to spoil the Windsor victory.
On Saturday against Waterloo, the Lancers got on the board with a goal from Leshorn Woods-Henry. A CristianMayorga free kick in the 32nd minute forced the Warrior keeper to make a spectacular save. While he was still recovering, Woods-Henry headed the ball into the ground and into the empty net.

Guelph 0 at York 2
A strong performance from Tyrone Downes lifted the No. 3 nationally-ranked York University Lions men's soccer team to victory on Friday (Oct. 11) as York defeated the No. 5 Guelph Gryphons by a score of 2-0 at York Stadium.
The win improves the Lions' squad to 10-2-0 on the season and moves them back into first place in the OUA West Division. They lead the McMaster Marauders by one point and the Gryphons by two, and also have one game in hand on the Marauders and two on the Gryphons.
Both squads looked energetic in the early going as the two teams engaged in a quick-passing, fast-paced first half. Downes established his dominance from the outset, setting up a beautiful crossing attempt in the 18th minute that beat Guelph goaltender Niklas Wetterling (Ljungby, Sweden), but he was unable to reach a Lions foot for the conversion.
Downes again would challenge Wetterling only two minutes later when he ripped through the Gryphondefence and fired a hard strike past the diving Guelph goalie. The shot would sail just wide right however, as the 0-0 draw held strong.
But the suffocating Lions attack had Guelph playing pinned deep and the team looked to finally capitalize. Downes continued to shine, and would launch a beautiful curving lead pass to teammate Joseph Cicchillo (North York, Ont.), who hammered a laser shot top shelf for the score, jumping out in front 1-0.
A threatening free kick for Guelph's always dangerous Robert Murphy (Ottawa) would follow a costly yellow card for York, but the Lions were able to retain the one score lead going into the break.
Riding the momentum, the Lions effectively shut down the Gryphons for the remainder of the day, forcing play into the visiting team's end for most of the final 45 minutes. Guelph's only real chance would come on a 76th minute free kick attempt that barely missed the Lions net wide left.
On the turnaround, however, York's Benjamin Futoriansky (Richmond Hill, Ont.) would catch the Gryphons off guard and tap in a goal of his own, extending York's lead to two.
York goalkeeper SotiriVarlokostas (Toronto, Ont.) maintained the strong defensive play for York throughout the game, as his five saves led to the shutout. Wetterling, meanwhile, made three saves in the loss.
The Lions return to action at York Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 12) looking to extend their lead atop the OUA West Division, as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at 3:15 p.m.

Nipissing 3 at Laurentian 0
The Laurentian Voyageurs men’s soccer team were looking to beat the Nipissing Lakers for the second time this season on Oct. 10 at the James Jerome Sports Complex in Sudbury. While the men started off the game with great pace and possessed the ball exceptionally well throughout the first 45 minutes of play, Nipissing was able to find the back of Laurentian’s net on three occasions and shutout the Voyageurs, earning their 3-0 victory against their northern rivals.
The first half of the game was a great display of Laurentian’s ability to possess the ball, as the Voyageurs were able to spread out the Lakers and string series of passes within their half. Even with their strong play from the opening whistle, the Voyageurs were unable to keep the Lakers from creating opportunities of their own, when Darius Tignanelli (North Bay, ON) opened the scoring at the 16 minute mark. Throughout the first 45 minutes of play Laurentian’s Liam Dougherty (Scarborough, ON) put the Laker’s back line under pressure, and made his presence felt within the final third, as he helped the Voyageurs earn three corner kicks and put two shots on net. There were no other goals scored within the half, leaving Nipissing up by one leading into the second.
The second half proved to be a challenge for the Laurentian squad, as they were unable to find the back of the net on the goal scoring opportunities they created. While they maintained possession for a good part of the second half, the Voyageurs were unable to stop the Lakers’ counters, with Jean-Michel Paulin (North Bay, ON) and Drew Johnson (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) scoring within three minutes of each other near the 70th minute mark of the game. The men continued to battle hard for the remainder of the half, however seemed unable to maintain composure with the ball. The Voyageurs weren’t able to come back from behind, with the game ending in a 3-0 victory for the Nipissing Lakers.
The Lakers’ men’s team victory gave Nipissing the upper leg in the competition between both schools for the Riley Cup. This is the first time in six years that the Lakers have won the cup.
The men will be looking to win against the Trent Excalibur on Saturday at 7 p.m.

McMaster 2 at UOIT 0
The Marauder men's soccer team did all of its damage over a 12-minute span of the first half, en route to a 2-0 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Friday night.
Aleksandar Vincic and Gersi Xhuti were the scorers for McMaster (10-2-2) on the night. The victory was the Marauders' fourth in succession, during which time the team has not conceded a goal. McMaster remains atop the OUA West standings with the win, with 32 points from 14 matches.
Vincic opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with his first goal of the season, a rare attack from the Marauder defender. McMaster was unsatisfied with just one goal from its early pressure, however, and Xhuti struck on the eve of halftime to extend the Marauders' advantage to 2-0. The goal was the midfielder's sixth of the season, vaulting him into McMaster's team lead in that category.
The Marauders dutifully put up the barricades in the second half, and did as they have for the course of their recent winning streak, successfully fending off any and all Ridgeback threats on goal.
Angelo Cavalluzzo saved all four shots he faced to record McMaster's seventh clean sheet of the season.
The Marauders have one final weekend of action ahead before the onset of the OUA playoffs. The team will welcome the Brock Badgers to Ron Joyce Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19, before traveling to Waterloo to confront the Laurier Golden Hawks in the final game of the season on Oct. 20.
Saturday's home contest will follow the preceding women's match, and is scheduled to get underway at 3:15 p.m.
