Carleton 0 at Nipissing 0
The No. 1 Carleton Ravens came away from their northern swing without a win as the Nipissing Lakers men’s soccer team held them to a hard fought 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon.
With the draw the Lakers improve to 2-4-1 while Carleton moves to 4-1-2 on the season.
The Lakers and Ravens played a fast paced game right off the opening whistle but both teams had difficulty penetrating the defence. It was not until the 20th minute that the Lakers got their first scoring chance as striker Neil VanDeWalle was sent in on a diagonal through ball that he and the Ravens tender raced towards. The Ravens goalie slid towards the ball but in doing so committed a foul and the Lakers were awarded a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. The ensuing free kick deflected off the wall and over the net.
Five minutes later the Lakers were awarded a free kick that was delivered by Cale England to the left post where Tylor Doell was left unmarked however the ball just sailed over his head and out of play.
The first ended with Carleton being awarded a corner kick that was effectively cleared by the Lakers defence.
In the second half Carleton would receive several chance in a five minute span with the best opportunity resulting from a corner kick that was cleared back to the side line but sent in again and the ball bounced around and landed on the foot of the Carleton striker who then kick it just over the cross bar.
In the 74th minute it appeared the Lakers took the lead as England delivered a corner kick that was headed in by Brandon TeBrake however the goal was called offside.
Both teams buckled down on defence and did not allow any significant chances from this point on.
The Lakers will be on the road to face the same Ravens on Sunday.

UOIT 1 at Guelph 5
Guelph, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons men's soccer team defeated the visiting UOIT Ridgebacks 5-1 on Sunday (Sept. 22) afternoon at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. The Gryphons improve to 5-1-2 on the season while the Ridgeback's fall to 1-6-1.
The Ridgebacks opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a free kick. Despite the early setback the Gryphons were all over the Ridgeback's putting pressure on their defense early and often. Ethan Danielli and Timothy Flynn both had great chances early in the match, with Flynn's effort barely missing the far post. Guelph finally evened the score after a beautiful cross sent in by Paul Manchisi was headed by Justin Springer in the 35th minute. Shortly thereafter Guelph's Robert Murphy put the Gryphons ahead 2-1 on a beautiful free kick from just outside the box. Murphy struck the ball just over the Ridgeback wall and into the top corner. The half ended with the Gryphon's up 2-1. Guelph generated a lot of their offense from corners as they had nine in the first half alone.
The Gryphons continued to apply pressure to the Ridgeback's in the second half. Michael Bijman nearly added to the Gryphon's lead as he hit the post in the 66th minute.
In the 71st minute Robbie Murphy tallied another goal on a penalty kick. Guelph was awarded the penalty kick after midfielder Paris Roserie was taken down in the box.
In the 86th minute Tim Flynn scored on a header to make it 4-1 Gryphons. Murphy netted his third of the match in the 90th minute to complete the hat trick.
The Gryphons will play again Wednesday at home, hosting the Waterloo Warriors.

Western 0 at McMaster 1
It wasn't pretty, but the Marauders rode a moment of pure class from Ryan Garnett to their sixth-consecutive OUA victory on Sunday, edging out the Western Mustangs 1-0.
The win propelled McMaster – at least momentarily – to the top of the OUA West division standings. The Marauders leapfrogged the York Lions with 19 points from eight games, having played one more game than the Lions.
The first half of Sunday's contest was a cagey affair, with both teams marking closely and giving very little away in the final third. Karl Bicamumpaka – whose skills had been on fine display in McMaster's midweek destruction of Waterloo – was the man the Marauders looked to unlock along the wing. But as Western's defenders stepped into space, and McMaster's touch in midfield faltered, neither Bicamumpaka nor any of his teammates were given a clear attempt on goal.
The deadlock in midfield loosened just before the half, with each team narrowly missing a long attacking run. The creative bursts lacked a final pass, and the teams entered the break without a goal.
Western looked the more likely to score early in the second half, as a reinvigorated counterattack forced McMaster's defenders to close down smartly and concede several set pieces. But the Mustangs could not make good on the threat, and Garnett made them rue the missed opportunity in the 65th minute.
The veteran defender stood over a free kick on the edge of the Western box, and unleashed a perfectly-weighted drive that eluded the wall and quickly whipped inside the far post. Goalkeeper Adam Majer could only look on helplessly as the ball sailed past him.
The goal in hand, the Marauders effectively put up the barricades in the last 25 minutes of the match. The purposeful counters that had put McMaster on the back foot earlier were nowhere to be seen. Instead, the Marauders probed for a second goal, feeding the ball to the searching runs of Gersi Xhuti.
That insurance never came, but it was not needed, as McMaster easily put the game to rest and secured another three points.
The Marauders stand as the form team of the OUA at the moment, and they will put their now six-game winning streak on the line on Friday, Sept. 27. McMaster will take to the road to conclude the season series with the Windsor Lancers, a team the Marauders dispatched at Ron Joyce Stadium on Sept. 15.

Waterloo 1 at Brock 1
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – For the first time all season, the Brock men's soccer team picked up a point on their home field, drawing the Waterloo Warriors 1-1 on Sunday. The Badgers improve to 0-5-3 with the tie.
In a very physical game, Waterloo took a quick 1-0 lead after Mohamed Aborig beat Brock senior goalkeeper Jake Sweetzer in the 11th minute.
In the 39th minute, Aborig was awarded a penalty kick and missed the goal wide left, which swayed the momentum in Brock's favour.
Before the end of the half Brock midfielder Sammy Orlando was handed the game's first yellow card in the 45th minute. The penalties did not stop there, as four more yellow cards were given in the second half (two to Waterloo and a pair to Brock), and was a good indication of how intense both teams were playing.
Brock sophpmore Omar Hamadi would tie the game 1-1 in the 64th minute registering his first goal of the season. Neither team could beat the opposition's keeper after Hamadi's marker in the 64th minute, giving each of them a much-needed point.
Sweetzer was named the MVP for Brock, registering six saves for the tie. Waterloo starter Thomas Modjesch collected eight saves as Waterloo added their first point of the season.
The draw snapped a five-game home losing streak for the Badgers dating back to last October. Their next chance to move up in the OUA standings comes next Saturday at Guelph, before returning home Sunday to host York.

York 4 at Waterloo 0
The goal-scoring race between York University Lions men's soccer teammates Jonathan Lao and Mark-Anthony Kaye continued on Saturday (Sept. 21) as both players notched their sixth goals in a 4-0 routing of the Waterloo Warriors at Warrior Stadium.
With the win, the No. 2 nationally-ranked Lions extend their impressive record to 6-1-0 on the season and remain atop the OUA West Division standings.

Not wanting to lose ground, Kaye (Toronto) followed suit. Taking matters into his own hands, Kaye launched a perfect 25-yard strike on goal. Modjesch would get a hand on the ball, but Kaye's shot overpowered the save attempt, extending the lead 2-0 right before half.
The Lions' dominant play continued in the second, as defencemen Blake Rich (Mississauga, Ont.) padded the gap with a highlight bar-down rocket shot of his own from an awkward angle in the 62nd minute.
