Toronto 0 at Laurentian 0
The Laurentian Men’s soccer team were able to create many goal scoring opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net, and ended their weekend with a 0-0 tie.
The Voyageurs, currently tied for 3rd in the OUA East division, were able to maintain a calm demeanour throughout the game, stringing passes through from their defensive end to the middle of the pitch. Laurentian was able to create goal scoring opportunities in the Blues end, earning 4 corners and putting four shots on net, however they were unable to find the back of the net.
Laurentian’s back line, led by Cam Coulter (Sault Ste Marie, ON) and Cameron Brooks (Whitby, ON), was solid throughout the entire 90 minutes of play, preventing the Blues from creating any threatening goal scoring opportunities. Laurentian goaltender Thomas Guscott (Sudbury, ON) stopped all of Toronto’s shots, keeping his team in the game and earning a shutout for his performance.
The men will be playing against the Nipissing Lakers on Friday at 7:15 p.m. Continue to follow your Voyagers at www.luvoyageurs.com for up-to-date news and results.

Windsor 2 at Laurier 0
WATERLOO, Ont. (October 6, 2013) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's soccer team hosted the Windsor Lancers as they battled for fourth place in the division. The Hawks fell short in a 2-0 final to the Lancers, in what was an even two-way game.
The Golden Hawks were unable to capitalize on their offensive efforts, as they were held scoreless despite firing seven shots on target. After what was a scoreless first half, the Lancers finally managed to get on the scoreboard with a penalty kick in the 63rd minute from Christian Mayorga of Windsor, Ont. Leshorn Woods-Henry of Toronto, Ont. added to the Lancers lead with a tally mid-way through the second half.
After earning a shutout in Laurier's match against the University of Waterloo, Brett Harrington of TIllsonburg, Ont. got the call for the Hawks. Despite a strong performance, Harrington was unable to hold off the Lancers. Dejo Olagbegi of Windsor, Ont., was a wall for the Lancers, as he shut down the Laurier offence to earn the shutout.
The Golden Hawks (5-3-3) will take on the No.1 York Lions (9-2-0) on Oct. 12, as they aim to secure a playoff spot with a win on the road. Kickoff is set for 3:15 p.m. at York Stadium.

Ryerson 3 at Nipissing 2
?It seems like the Nipissing Lakers men’s soccer team just can’t catch a break these days.
The Lakers, for the second day in a row, dropped a one goal decision, this time, falling to the Ryerson Rams by a score of 3-2.
Nipissing grabbed an early lead thanks to Ryan Mantle’s goal in the 19th minute.
The Rams evened things up to send the teams to the half-time break tied at one.
The Rams then exploded for two goals in just three minutes to grab a commanding 3-1 lead, one that would last until the final whistle.
Drew Johnson would get one back for the Lakers, as he scored in the 83rd minute, but that was as close as they would come, as they failed to pick up a point this weekend.
The Lakers next action comes next weekend as they head to Sudbury for a battle with Laurentian Friday night, before returning home for a match with Trent on Sunday afternoon.

Western 2 at Guelph 3
Guelph, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons men's soccer team defeated the Western Mustangs with a final score of 3-2 at the Gryphon Soccer Complex, moving Guelph to 8-1-4.
Jamie Wilcock scored two goals for the Gryphons, and led the team with four shots on goal in total. Timothy Flynn and Jared Agyemang had two shots on goal each and helped Guelph come out with a total of 12 shots on goal.
It was Zachary Rushe who scored Guelph's final goal of the game in added time to make it 3-2 against the Western Mustangs.
The Gryphons came out strong with two good plays putting them down in Western's half early, but it would be the Mustang player Christian Douglas (Oakville, Ont.) who would make it 1-0 in the first minute for Western. Guelph played a physical game, but was not able to use their speed against the evenly matched Western Mustangs.
The Gryphons started the second half off with a goal by Jamie Wilcock in the 50th minute of play. A red card on Western player Christian Douglas after an injury sustained by a Guelph player in the 55th minute would put the Mustangs down a man, giving the Gryphons the advantage. Wilcock's second goal came in the 70th minute after beating the defenders inside the box. Despite being a player down, the Mustangs rallied in the 88th minute of play with Jovan Ivanovich (London, Ont.) scoring a goal. Guelph would pull ahead after a last minute goal by Zach Rushe, which would make it a final score of 3-2.
The Guelph Gryphons men's soccer team hits the field again against the York Lions on Oct. 11 at 3:15 p.m. in Toronto.

UOIT 0 at McMaster 3
The result was comfortable for the Marauders, even while the conditions at Ron Joyce Stadium were not. The McMaster men's soccer team took a two-goal lead into halftime and added a third late in the second, as the Marauders coasted to a 3-0 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks as fog settled over campus on Sunday.
Gersi Xhuti and Nate Morris had goals for McMaster, with a UOIT own-goal providing the second goal of the game. The win keeps the Marauders (8-2-2) comfortably in third in the OUA West, with 26 points from 14 games. The Ridgebacks (1-10-1) remain tied with the Waterloo Warriors for the worst record in the division.
The two sides started loosely, but it was McMaster who began to turn the screws as the first half wore on. Xhuti pressed forward frequently, lying just behind striker Paterson Farrell, and it was his opportunism that snatched the opening goal of the game for the Marauders.
The Ridgebacks played a routine horizontal ball across the backfield, but the pass was a complacent one and Xhuti immediately latched on and beat the scrambling defender in front of him. The McMaster midfielder smartly held the ball and one-touched past the onrushing UOIT goalkeeper before side-footing home to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.
A costly miscue on the Ridgebacks part doubled the Marauders lead six minutes later. A low cross came into the box and demanded a clearance, but the UOIT defender could only deflect the ball past his own goalkeeper, catching him flat-footed.
McMaster seemed content to defend its two-goal advantage in the second half, and largely kept UOIT clear of any threatening positions. Angelo Cavalluzzo was forced into an alert save, however, midway through the period, when the third-year goalkeeper got fingertips to a Ridgeback drive from the edge of the area.
Morris put the result to rest in the 87th minute, when he put the final touch on a Marauder break to slot in a bouncing ball from close range.
The Marauders face a short turnaround in preparing for their next opponents, as McMaster will travel to London to battle the Western Mustangs on Wednesday. That game will follow the preceding women's match, and is scheduled to get underway at 8:00 p.m.

Ryerson 2 at Laurentian 1
Coming off a big victory this past weekend, the Laurentian men’s soccer team was looking to earn three points against the Ryerson Rams on Saturday. The men fought hard throughout the full 90 minutes, however they were unable to earn the victory, succumbing 1-2 to the Ryerson Rams, who are currently the leaders of the OUA East division.
Both teams started the game with intensity; however it was the Rams who were able to find the back of the net first. Ryerson opened the scoring at the five minute mark, when Alexander Braletic scored his first of the game, and 10th of the season. The Voyageurs continued to battle for possession throughout the remainder of the half, and earned their first goal of the game at the 33rd minute mark from Joel Levac (Cornwall, ON).
Similarly to the first half, the Rams opened the scoring within the first few minutes of play. Scoring his second of the game, Braletic found the back of the net off a cross coming into the Laurentian box. The Voyageurs were able to maintain possession throughout the remainder of the game with Stephen Fattore (Brampton, ON) and Omar Allison (Brampton, ON) controlling the play within the middle of the field, however they were unable to convert on any opportunities. McMaster 1 at York 0
The No. 1 nationally ranked York University Lions men's soccer team was looking to avenge their only loss, as they took on the No. 7 McMaster Marauders on Saturday (Oct. 5) at York Stadium. The rematch was bittersweet however, as York fell once again to the Marauders by a score of 1-0. The loss was the first at home since Sept. 29, 2009.
Having dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the Marauders on Sept. 13th, the Lions had their hearts set on vengeance. And the tension was palpable from the first touch.
Continuing their sensational play from the past few games, York looked incredibly strong from the opening whistle. Though the majority of the first half was played under a draw, the Lions had several chances in front of the Marauder goal that they were unable to convert upon.
The Lions pressure had the Marauders frustrations boiling over however, resulting in a yellow card in the 37th minute of play. But as the Lions looked to capitalize on McMaster's misstep, they would commit a costly error of their own. York midfielder Arthur Casupanan (Niagara Falls, Ont.) would score a goal on his own net while attempting to defend a McMaster attacker, conceding a 1-0 deficit before half.
The second half began with the same tension as the first, as both teams continued the incredibly close play. The half's only real chance came for York off of another costly McMaster yellow card that awarded the Lions a free kick attempt in the 66th minute of play. But McMaster would block the kick, and though the majority of the second half was played within the Marauders end, York was unable to overcome the 1-0 score.
The Lions drop to 9-2 on the season, and look to rebound on home turf Friday (Oct. 11) when they face the visiting Guelph Gryphons at 3:15pm at York Stadium.

Windsor 1 at Guelph 1
Guelph, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphon men's soccer team tied the visiting Windsor Lancer's today 1-1 at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. The tie puts the Gryphon's at 7-1-4 on the season while the Lancer's move to 5-2-4.
The contest had implications on the top of OUA West standings as only six points separated the fourth place Lancer's from the second place Gryphon's heading into the match. Guelph was without leading goal scorer Robert Murphy for today's match as he was out with an injury.
The first half was very closely contested. Neither side surrendered many scoring opportunities. In the 10th minute Windsor player Jack Sargent was given a yellow card for a dangerous slide tackle.
The best opportunities for the Gryphon's came in the 24th minute with chances coming off a free kick and corner kick consecutively. Gryphon goalie Nicolas Wetterling made a great save off a free kick in the 27th minute, stopping the Lancer's best opportunity of the half. Gryphon captain Mike Bijman (Brantford, Ont.) was given a yellow card in the 44th minute. With three total yellow cards in the half, both sides had their emotions on full display.
In the 51st minute Timothy Flynn e(Scarborough, Ont.) ended the deadlock on a penalty kick. Flynn was taken down in the box by Lancer Derrick Amankwa. Amankwa was given a yellow card for the infraction. The Lancer's tied the match in the 65th minute when Michael Pio scored on a header off a free kick deep inside Gryphon territory.
Yet another yellow card was given in the game during the 67th minute, this time to Guelph for an undisciplined challenge. In the 83rd minute Guelph nearly scored the go ahead goal when Timothy Flynn's header was stopped on a beautiful, diving save by Windsor goalie Dejo Olagbegi. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Gryphon's will play again tomorrow at home, hosting the Western Mustangs at 3:15 p.m.
