Sept. 8 - RMC @ Carleton
The Carleton men’s soccer team continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon at Ravens Field with a dominant 4-0 victory over the Royal Military Paladins.
“I thought it was a scrappy match but we played through it and came out with the win,” said Carleton head coach, Sandy Mackie.
Carleton improved its season record to 3-0-1 and occupy first place in the OUA East Division with 10 points.
The Laurentian Voyageurs occupy second place in the division with 7 points courtesy of their 2-1-1 record.
Midfield Joey Kewin (London, ON) led the Ravens attack with three goals. Striker Andrew Latty (Ottawa, ON) had the other Carleton marker (6th).
“I was in the right place at the right time and capitalized on some of RMC’s defensive mistakes,”said Kewin who scored a hat trick for the second time in his CIS career.
Carleton is back in action Saturday, Sept. 14 when they host the Trent Excalibur at Ravens Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.Source: Carleton Sports Info
Queen's @ Trent
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (Sept. 8, 2013) - Andrew Martin (Kingston, Ont.) opened the scoring for the No. 7 Gaels six minutes into their game against the Trent Excalibur Sunday afternoon at Justin Chiu Stadium, where the Gaels went on to win 2-0.
Tommy Hong (Oakville, Ont.) beat his man down the wing and played the ball into the box, where Martin finished the play from six yards out.
Trent found their footing late in the first half and continued to build on their momentum early the second half, forcing the Gaels keeper Dylan Maxwell (Vancouver) into a few pivotal saves. The Excalibur backline also shut down the Gaels offense during the stretch, largely in part to strong play from Chris Bascelli.
In the later stages of the second half the Queen's offense woke up when Henry Bloemen (Toronto) had a goal disallowed for being offside. As the game wound down, Chris Wellsman (Victoria) cut the ball back to the top of the box and found second-half substitute William Twardek (Ottawa), who knocked the ball off the inside of the post to make it 2-0 in the 75th minute.
Maxwell finished the game with 10 saves for a clean sheet, while his counterpart David Ellis made four saves in a losing effort.
The Gaels (1-1) are on the road again next week, taking on the Laurentian Voyageurs (2-1) on Saturday and the Nipissing Lakers (1-3) on Sunday. Both games get underway at 2:15 p.m.

McMaster @ Brock
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University men's soccer team lost a 3-1 decision to the McMaster Marauders Sunday afternoon, dropping their record to 0-2-2.
Two minutes into the contest, McMaster's Gersi Xhuti beat Brock keeper Jake Sweetzer (Mississauga, Ont.) to give the Marauders a quick lead. Badgers captain Erik Van Wissen (Georgetown, Ont.) put his squad back in the game with a goal of his own at the 19-minute mark, evening the score at one.
McMaster substitute Nathaniel Morris found his way onto the scoresheet twice in as many minutes ('55 and '57), giving his squad a lead that they would not look back on.
Sunday's loss for Brock was their second of the season, and now they find themselves sitting seventh in the OUA West standings. Sweetzer stopped five of the eight shots that came his way, while his counterpart for the Marauders Kieran Doyle-Davis allowed one goal on four shots.
Van Wissen's second goal of the season ties him with Marcus Bernard for the team lead.
The Badgers will now prepare for a pair of games next weekend, as they host both Windsor and Guelph.

Guelph @ Waterloo
Waterloo dropped their fourth straight game to open up the 2013 season losing a hard fought 2-1 game to the visiting Guelph Gryphons on Sunday at Warrior field. Jared Agyemang scored both goals including the winner in the 86th minute to improve Guelph's record to 2-1-1 on the season.
Waterloo opened the scoring in the 26th minute on a highlight reel goal by fourth-year midfielder Jesse Bean (Waterloo). Bean's individual effort was capped off with a tremendous strike to the top right corner past Gryphon keeper Niklas Wetterling.
Waterloo looked to jump out to a 2-0 lead on a beautiful ball by Kian Gordanifar (Mississauga) to Mohamed Aborig (Tripoli), but the solid Aborig strike was turned aside by Wetterling to keep it a one goal advantage.
Guelph found the equalizer in the 39th minute as Agyemang took advantage of a Warrior mix-up in the box and put the ball past Waterloo's starting keeper Thomas Modjesch (Romania). Modjesch was busy in the half making eight saves but was forced to leave the game with an injury passing the goalie duties off to Adam Weller (Keswick).
Weller performed admirably in relief of Modjesch but could not stop Agyemang who ripped an unstoppable shot late in the game to sink the Warriors.
The Warriors will look for their first win of the season next weekend on the road when they travel to Oshawa to face UOIT.

Western @ York
Rookie midfielder Dylan Sacramento scored a hat trick on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 8) to lead the No. 2 nationally-ranked York University Lions men's soccer team to a dominant 5-1 victory over the visiting Western Mustangs at York Stadium.
Sacramento (Unionville, Ont.) was all over the field in this contest, recording a total of seven shots. His first goal, also the first of his career, stood up as the game-winner and came in the 18th minute on a gorgeous shot from 15 yards out. He was well right of Western goalie Adam Majer (Maple, Ont.) but stroked the ball perfectly, curling it around Majer and just past the goal post.
He scored again in the 54th minute and capped off the hat trick in the 61st minute with nearly identical goals. In each, he received the ball more than 25 yards out and fired a hard shot off his right foot that sailed past Majer.
Sacramento was also instrumental to the game's first goal, as he was hauled down inside the box in the 10th minute and the Lions were awarded a penalty kick. Second-year midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye (Toronto) took the shot and scored easily for the early 1-0 lead.
After Sacramento's first tally, Joseph Cicchillo (North York, Ont.), a second-year striker, scored York's third goal of the contest in the 38th minute that gave the Lions a 3-0 advantage.
Sacramento, Kaye, Cicchillo and first-year midfielder Jonathan Lao (Unionville, Ont.) are all among the top seven in OUA scoring after two weekends of play.
Western's only goal of the contest was actually an own goal off the foot of York defender Paulo Alves (Mississauga, Ont.) that slid past York goalkeeper Sotiri Varlokostas (Toronto).
Varlokostas was forced to make just two saves, including a nice one on a point-blank shot by Western's Taso Bujouves (London, Ont.) in the second half.
Majer, meanwhile, faced 11 shots and made five saves before being replaced in the 63rd minute by Ivan Skoko (Mississauga, Ont.). Skoko stopped both of the shots fired his way.
The win extends the Lions' regular-season unbeaten streak to 24 games. They are one of only two teams in the OUA West Division to remain undefeated on the season and are the only squad with four victories.
Next up for the Lions is a trip to Hamilton, Ont., on Friday evening (Sept. 13) and the site of the team's last regular-season loss, which came on Oct. 7, 2011 against the McMaster Marauders. The contest will begin at 7:15 p.m, and as part of the weekend the Lions will also host the UOIT Ridgebacks on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 15) at 3:15 p.m.

UOIT @ Windsor
WINDSOR, Ont. - The UOIT men's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to the Windsor Lancers on Sunday afternoon, as the Ridgebacks suffered their third straight loss.
After a solid effort on Saturday against the nationally ranked Western Mustangs, the Ridgebacks were unable to carry that momentum into Sunday’s contest.
The Lancers got off to a quick start as they were given a penalty kick just two minutes into the contest. Cristian Mayorga would capitalize on the opportunity as he beat UOIT goalkeeper Travis Martin (Port Perry, Ont.) to go ahead 1-0.
After trading scoring chances for the rest of the first half which included an unsuccessful penalty shot for UOIT, Windsor would manage to strike again as Iyowuna Jumbo scored his first career OUA goal at the 38 minute-mark.
Windsor would tack on three more goals in the second half, with Patrick Ten Eyck, Mayorga and Salinitri finding the back of the net.
UOIT fired six shots on target, but Kyle Vizirakis was able to stop them all for his first career shutout.
The Ridgebacks fall to 0-3-1 this season and sit in eighth place in the OUA western conference. Windsor holds the final playoff position with a record of 1-1-2.
UOIT’s next action is scheduled for Friday, September 13 when they host the Waterloo Warriors. Waterloo is currently in last place with a 0-4-0 record.

Nipissing @ Ryerson
TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams men’s soccer team earned their second straight victory on Sunday afternoon, toppling the Nipissing Lakers 4-1 at Monarch Park Stadium.
Alex Braletic (Thornhill, Ont.) opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when he finished a cross from Cameron Galea-Andrews (Oakville, Ont.) to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
Armin Tankovic (Mississauga, Ont.) scored his second goal of the season in the 40th minute to extend the Rams lead to 2-0 when his thundering strike from about 22 yards out went off the Nipissing keeper’s hands but was too strong and still crossed the goal line.
Braletic added his second of the game and fourth of the season just three minutes later with his own strong strike, this time beating the keeper cleanly. Braletic’s four goals are already a new season high throughout the course of his five year OUA career.
Nipissing broke the Rams bid for a clean sheet in the 60th minute when Brandon TeBrake (Ottawa, Ont.) headed home a free ball from Jonathan Courvoisier (Barrie, Ont.) to make it 3-1.
Ryerson’s Greg Wise (Pickering, Ont.) notched his first OUA goal in the 78th minute when his high lofting shot from nearly 40 yards out went over the outstretched arms of the keeper and into the top right corner to round out the scoring.
“I thought we started pretty sluggish today but a couple moments of brilliance really settled us down. Alex (Braletic) had a nice goal, Armin (Tankovic) had a nice crack and there’s nothing like an early goal to settle a team down”, said associate coach Filip Prostran following the game.
Aris Efstathiadis (Toronto) made his first appearance in goal for the Rams on Sunday, coming on as a substitute in the 80th minute. Despite not having to face a shot, Prostran was happy with the freshman’s play.
“Aris is a nice kid, he just joined us on the team. He’s been training really well and today was a good opportunity for him to get some minutes. He’s a first year player so he’s learning from Christian (Maraldo) as much as he can and I thought he did well. He didn’t have too much to do but he kept no goals against and that’s what we’re looking for.”
With the win the Rams (2-0-1) extended their undefeated streak to 16 straight regular season games dating back to last season. They will look to continue that streak next Sunday, Sept. 15 when they take on the Toronto Varsity Blues at Toronto’s Varsity Centre at 3:15 p.m.Source: Ryerson Sports Info
Laurentian @ Toronto
First-year midfielder Nirun Sivananthan scored in the 88th minute to help the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team tie the Laurentian Voyageurs 1-1 on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Varsity Centre.
The Blues are now 1-1-1 on the season, while the Voyageurs are 2-1-1 in the OUA East division. Toronto outshot Laurentian 10-2 on the day.
After a scoreless first half, it looked as though the Blues had the first goal as co-captain Ezequiel Lubocki (Winnipeg) found himself all alone in front of Laurentian goalkeeper Thomas Guscott, but the Sudbury native came up with the stop.
The Voyageurs opened the scoring in the 70th minute with a goal off the foot of fifth-year striker Stephen Fattore (Brampton). Rookie midfielder Russell Rodrigues had a chance to tie it for the Blues in the 77th minute when his shot rang off the post, but it was Sivananthan who evened the score for the Blues in the dying minutes.
First-year goalkeeper Kenneth Viegas (Brampton) made one save in the draw.

UOIT @ Western
LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs men's soccer team defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks on Saturday, Sept. 7 at TD Stadium in their second game of the season, following a victory over the Windsor Lancers last weekend.
The Mustangs look to continue to move up the OUA West standings, with Saturday's victory resulting in a 2-0-1 record on the season. Mustangs player, Alessandro Colacci, opened the scoring in the first half with the first and only goal of the game.
The second half was a tight defensive match with both sides remaining scoreless, making Colacci's early marker the winning goal for the Mustangs and setting the final score at 1-0 for Western.
The Ridgebacks managed just two shots on goal the entire game thanks to Western's strong defensive play, while the Mustangs had six shots on goal. The Mustangs remain undefeated after three regular season OUA matches.

York @ Guelph
Guelph, Ont. – The Gryphon men's soccer team lost 2-0 to the No. 2 York Lions at home Saturday at the Gryphons Soccer Complex. With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 1-1-1 on the season.
The Gryphs utilized their speed to the best of their ability, battling not only the Lions but also the wet fall weather. The two teams started off aggressively pursuing the ball, but ultimately the Gryphons maintained possession more effectively for the majority of the first half.
The game turned in York's favour in the 30th minute when Daniel Fabrizi (Brampton, Ont.) scored a goal, closely followed by a corner kick and another goal for Mark Anthony Kaye (Toronto, Ont.) in the 32nd minute. Guelph responded by pressuring the York defensemen and pushing the ball up the field, unfortunately they were not able to put any points on the board.
The Gryphons powered back in the second half of play, but were unable to make it past the Lions goalkeeper. They managed four shots on goal, which didn't allow York any attempts on goal in the second half.
Although the York Lions ended the game with a score of 2-0, the Gryphons managed to get seven shots on goal throughout the game, with York only managing five. Robbie Murphy (Ottawa, Ont.) lead the team with three shots on goal, with Jared Agyemang (Brampton, Ont.) following close behind with two shots on goal.
The Gryphons meet the Waterloo Warriors tomorrow (Sept. 8) in Waterloo with the game scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.

Over 1,5000 fans were in attendance to witness the exciting match which went back and forth in the opening half but the home side ran out of steam in the second 45 minutes and McMaster took full advantage.
Waterloo did however manage to find their first goal of the season as Mohamed Aborig (Tripoli) put home a penalty kick past McMaster keeper Angelo Cavalluzzo in the 86th minute. Warrior netminder Thomas Modjesch (Romania) was busy in the game making several acrobatic saves in the loss. The rookie tender finished with seven saves on 10 shots while Cavalluzzo allowed one goal on four shots.

Laurier @ Windsor
The Hawks, coming off a tie in their home opener against the Brock Badgers, went back on the road to take on the Lancers with hopes of extending their undefeated record. Laurier was evenly matched against a winless Windsor squad that was hungry to snap an early drought.
Laurier relied on a strong performance form goaltender Brett Harrington of Tillsonburg, Ont., who turned away all nine shots on net. Quality goaltending, along with stellar defensive play, allowed the Hawks to come away with a second straight tie.
The Golden Hawks look to extend their undefeated record on Friday Sept. 13th at University Stadium in Waterloo, as they take on the Guelph Gryphons. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. at University Stadium. Tickets for the game can be purchased at tickets.laurierathletics.com.

Laurentian @ Ryerson
TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams men’s soccer team recorded their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, posting a 2-0 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Armin Tankovic (Mississauga, Ont.) opened the scoring in the 71st minute, burying a cross from Michael Jan (Mississauga, Ont.) who was sprung on the right flank thanks to a great feed from Michael Velasquez (Vaughan, Ont.).
Alex Braletic (Thornhill, Ont.) added an insurance marker in injury time, his second goal of the season.
Ryerson (1-0-1) controlled much of the game, outshooting Laurentian (2-1-0) 11-4 and racking up 17 corner kicks to just four for the Voyageurs.
Rams keeper Christian Maraldo (Mississauga, Ont.) earned the victory in goal, collecting four saves on the afternoon, including an important one early on. Maraldo also took a ball right in the face in the latter stages of the game but battled through to help Ryerson secure the win.
“He took a ball right off the nose, had a bleeding nose there for a bit, but he’s a tough kid and he’ll be okay," commented associate coach Filip Prostran. “He played solid – he didn’t have a lot of work today, but early on he had a big save he had to make and had to be sure with his hands. First shutout of the year so I’m sure he won’t hate that.”
With the game winding down and only a single goal on the board, the Rams inserted some of their younger players to give them an opportunity to play in a tight contest.
“I think those are important moments for rookies. I think guys on most teams only get time when they’re up four or five goals but for us it’s important to get first year players in and get battle tested in the important, close games. Those will set them up for success later when they play in big matches", said Prostran.
With today’s victory the Rams have not lost a regular season contest since Sept. 2, 2012 – a span of 15 consecutive games. The squad will look to make that 16 straight when they host the Nipissing Lakers at 2:15 p.m. at Monarch Park Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 8.
