McMaster's Martin Ajayi scored a team-high 19 points, while adding four rebounds and four assists. Rob Scully added 18 points, connecting on 4-of-7 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the foul line. Adam Steiner (14 points), John Obrovac (13) and Ben Katz (12 points) also reached double-figures for the Marauders, who capture their first conference title since 1996-97.
The opening half was marked by a series of scoring runs from both teams. The Lions started the game on an 8-0 run behind a pair of quick threes by Amde Evans. Following an early timeout, McMaster exploded by scoring the next 14 points, highlighted by a pair of Ajayi three-pointers. With
less than three seconds remaining in the half, Scully drained a long trey to give the Marauders a
40-38 halftime lead.
McMaster began the second half on a 6-0 run, extending the lead to 46-38. Steiner, who was limited to six minutes in the first because of foul trouble, scored six of his 14 points in a span of just over a
minute. York's Tut Ruach hit a long three-pointer to bring the Lions to within three early in the half, however, back-to-back threes by Scully and Obrovac extended the Marauder lead to 11.
Ruach, Dan Eves and Jordan Foebel all scored 20 points apiece for the Lions. Eves added six rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Foebel added a game-high 14 rebounds and three blocks.
The Marauders shot 48.5 per cent from the field and 81.5 per cent from the charity stripe. The Lions were 49.2 per cent from the floor, 44.8 per cent from three-point range and just 55 per cent from the foul line. McMaster had just eight turnovers, while York turned the ball over 20 times.
Both teams will compete in the CIS Final 10 National Championship beginning on Thursday in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
