RAVENS EXTEND OUA EAST REGULAR SEASON UNBEATEN STREAK
The Ravens came out strong and established the play early in the match. Carleton had several opportunities to open the scoring but Queen's goalkeeper Tyler Lewis, (Maple Ridge, BC) was able to make the saves needed to keep the score tied at zero.
It would be Queen's that would open the scoring as the referee called a penalty kick for holding in Carleton's box, and the Golden Gaels Mike Arnold, (London, Ont.) would convert the penalty kick, at the 26th minute to give Queen's the early one goal lead.
The Ravens counter attacked after Queen's scored and the referee called his second penalty kick of the match, at the 38th minute of play on a holding in Queen's defensive zone. The Ravens Peter Mangiras (Belleville, Ont.) missed the shot but the referee called Lewis for moving and awarded a second penalty kick to Carleton, which Matt D'Angelo, Ottawa, Ontario would take. D'Angelo's penalty kick was stopped by Lewis, but the rebounded came straight back to D'Angelo who buried his 5th OUA goal of the season, to tie the match at one.
Within two minutes of the first Carleton Penalty Kick, the referee awarded a second for holding and veteran defender Roberto Gutierrez (Ottawa, Ont.) scored his first one the year to give Carleton a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Queen's came out strong in the second half, and Arnold would score his second goal of the game, at the 55th minute to tie the match at two. The veteran Raven team came back to score the winning goal at the 75th minute on an excellent cross by Andrew Park (Sudbury, Ont.) to Mangiras to score the eventual winning goal.
Carleton's Karl Wasslen (Ottawa, Ont.) made 5 saves in the Ravens net to earn his 3rd victory of the 2008 OUA East regular season campaign.
