CONCORDIA STINGS VOYAGEURS
In the first half, Laurnetian played a mixture of veteran and rookie players which seemed to work well with the mixture showing the team is starting to come together on the field. Strong team play combined and strong goalkeeping from Gomes (Woodbridge, Ont.) allowed the Voyageurs to head into halftime tied at zero.
In the second half, the Laurentian coaching staff began to test the rookies and seldom used second year players, by putting their veterans on the bench. It was in this half where the Stingers would get on the scoreboard, first on a penalty kick just 10 minutes into the half, then netting their second of the afternoon on bad Voyageur turnover that resulted in a breakaway goal, which Szczepaniak (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) had no chance on, to seal the game.
The Voyageurs dropped their second game of the weekend 2-0 to the Concordia Stingers.
“We battled hard today and gave the rookies a chance to show us what they have” said head coach Carlo Castrechino. “We have a bit of work to do this week as we prepare for the start of our regular season on September 2nd.”
The Laurentian Voyageurs will now train for a week as they prepare for their OUA regular season home opener against their rivals from Northern Ontario the Nipssing Lakers. Game time is set for noon at the Laurentian Soccer Fields.
