VIDOVICH STEPS DOWN AS VARSITY BLUES MEN'S SOCCER COACH
Vidovich, who also teaches at Toronto's Danforth Collegiate and Technical School and coaches their boys' and girls' soccer teams, decided it was time to hand over the reins after a very busy, but rewarding time with the Varsity Blues.
\"It was a real honour to have made a contribution to the winning tradition here at U of T,\" said Vidovich. \"I am really going to miss working with the players. It was really for the players that I became involved in the program. However, I'm confident that a new coach will carry on the task of building champions of these talented student-athletes. As for the future, I look forward to now becoming a Blues alumnus and spending more time with my young family.\"
This past season Vidovich led the U of T men to an Ontario University Athletics silver medal and a berth in the 2004 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Men's Soccer Championship. He was also named an OUA coach of the year for the second straight season.
An associate head coach of the Varsity Blues men's soccer team in 2003, Vidovich was also an assistant coach for the two previous seasons.
He had an impressive soccer career, earning two CIS All-Canadian selections while playing with the Carleton Ravens (1987, 1988) and playing professional soccer in the Canadian Soccer League until 1990. Vidovich was a member of the Varsity Blues soccer team while completing his M.Ed. at OISE/UT in 1999.
"John was a fantastic leader by example for our student-athletes,\" said Liz Hoffman, director of athletics at the University of Toronto. "We thank him for his commitment and passion for Varsity Blues soccer. He will certainly be missed."
A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
