WEEKEND ROUNDUP
The Toronto Varsity Blues put a stop to the surging Ryerson Rams with a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon. Jose D'Amora scored the games only marker. Robert Bucciarelli recorded the shut-out for the North-division leading Blues. The Rams, who were on a three game winning streak, will face division rival Brock next weekend
The Badgers, who lead Ryerson by three points in the South standings, drew to a 1-1 tie with Nipissing. Shane Kerrigan opened up scoring in the 8th minute to give Brock an early 1-0 lead. Nipissing responded in the 25th minute as Ivan Lulic found the back of the net. The Lakers almost pulled off another tie Sunday as they ultimately fell 2-1 to McMaster. Andrew Habermehl netted the game-winner in the 86th minute for the Marauders.
Laurentian was able to double up on McMaster 4-2 Saturday before falling 2-1 to Brock Sunday afternoon. Transfer Joe Jesseau led the Voyageurs with a hat trick Saturday against the Marauders. Jesseau scored the first two goals of the game before Justin Vesda and Andrew Habermehl tied the game up at 2-2. Jesseau responded in the 79th minute, with Matthew Boulton adding the insurance goal for Laurentian with 7 minutes left on the clock. Jesseau now has seven goals on the season, good for a share of the lead in the OUA. In Sunday's game Shane Kerrigan added his second and third goals of the weekend as the Badgers went up 2-0 on the Voyageurs. Bolton broke the shutout, by netting his second the weekend in the 80th minute.
The seventh-ranked Western Mustangs increased their West division lead to four points as the Mustangs defeated the Waterloo Warriors 1-0 over the weekend. Waterloo was able to bounce back with a decisive 5-0 win over the winless Trent Excalibur. The Warriors had a balanced scoring attack with five different players recording goals. Matt Simons recorded the shut out.
Also in the West division, Laurier grabbed a 4-1 win over the Windsor Lancers. The Golden Hawks almost took the shutout, but Mark Favaro broke the Lancers scoreless game in the 89th minute.
Two second-half goals by York gave the Lions a 2-0 shut out win over the Guelph Gryphons. With the win, the Lions pull within one point of the North division leading Toronto Varsity Blues.
