RMC REJOINS LEAGUE AFTER 13 YEARS
Back in Kingston, Trent continued to have a tough time. After losing to RMC, the Peterborough school fell 3-0 to Queen's on Sunday. Luke Corey scored twice for the Gaels, while Brent Lukowski added the third goal.
In the West division, the defending champion Western Mustangs had a rough start to their title defence. Saturday, they tied the visiting Waterloo Warriors 1-1, before falling to Laurier 2-1 on Sunday. Laurier started the season with two wins as they also blanked Windsor 2-0 on Saturday. Miguel Knox and Chris Diubaldo scored for the Hawks, while Allen Lourenco was rewarded with the shutout.
Windsor bounced back from their Saturday loss, to defeated Waterloo 2-1. Windsor's goals were by Jason Irwin and Jason Antovski, while last year's OUA and CIS Rookie of the Year Payman Charkhazin scored the Waterloo's lone goal.
The Brock Badgers got things going in the South division, defeating McMaster 2-1 on Saturday and then drawing to a 0-0 tie Sunday against Guelph. Dean Pasquini and Joe Del Priorie notched in the Badger goals against the Marauders, while Justin Vespa connected for McMaster's goal. On Sunday, Badger Chris Cutaia and Gryphon Chuck Seguin recorded their first shutouts of the season.
Guelph had balanced scoring in their 4-2 victory over Ryerson on Saturday, as there were four different goal scorers for the Gryphons. Radu Melnic provided the offence for the Rams, as he netted both goals. Melnic scored two more on Sunday, but it wasn't enough as McMaster squeaked by Ryerson 3-2.
York started the season 2-0 in the North division, defeating Laurentian 1-0 on Saturday and Nipissing 4-2 the following day. Paul Curcio netted the lone goal for the Lions, while rookie goalkeeper Matthew Balkanloo picked up his first shutout of his university career. On Sunday, Curcio scored two more for York in the win over Nipissing.
Despite the loss Saturday, Laurentian bounced back as veteran Szymon Niedzwiecki scored twice, including one just eight minutes into the game, to lead his team to a 3-2 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday. Joseph Jesseau scored Laurentian's third goal, while Kern Juman scored both of Toronto's markers.
