LAURENTIAN TAKES ALL IMPORTANT GAME
The win over the Varsity Blues, combined with a 1-1 tie Toronto had with Nipissing, moves Laurentian within one point of overtaking the Varsity Blues in the North standings. Eric Yung scored for the Lakers, while Kwaku Yebbah netted Toronto's lone goal in Saturday's match-up. Nipissing could not hold off a strong York Lions team however as they dominated the 5-1 game. David Calandra and Gianluca Saggese each scored twice for the Lions, who found the back of the net three time before the end of the first half. Michael Cipriani added the fifth York goal, while Alagie Gaye scored for the Lakers.
LANCERS PULL EVEN WITH WARRIORS FOR THIRD AND FINAL PLAYOFF SPOT
The Windsor Lancers took two games this weekend, while division rival Waterloo Warriors fell in their lone game, allowing the Lancers to draw even in the West division standings for the third and final playoff spot. Windsor traveled to Kingston this weekend, defeating host RMC 3-1 on Saturday and drawing a 1-1 tie with Queen's. Matt Balmer, Jason Irwin and Mark Favaro were the Lancer goal scorers in the win over the Paladins. Andrew Swan scored for RMC. Jason Antovski scored for Windsor, while Alex Makin netted Queen's goal.
Conversely, the Waterloo Warriors, who were holding onto sole possession of the third playoff spot in the West division, dropped a 3-1 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks. Freddy Magnussen, Joel Abwunza and Miguel Knox all scored for the Hawks, with Nick Klassen scoring for Waterloo. The Lancers and Warriors will face off next weekend in one of the last games of the regular season.
Elsewhere, #7 Carleton downed Trent 7-0. Andrew Park scored a hat trick, while Jeff Dennis added two more for the East division leading Ravens. Guelph edged out Ryerson 2-1. Jamie Fairweather and Chike Agbasi were the Gryphon goal scorers. Brook Azezew scored for Ryerson. Brock blanked McMaster 2-0 to give them a four point lead in the South division. Shane Kerrigan netted both Badger goals. Chris Cutaia recorded his fourth shutout of the season.
