OUA W-VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: NO. 10 LIONS IMPROVE TO 15-0
The Lions, who recently made the Top 10 rankings in CIS, improved their record to 15-0 on the season by beating the Paladins, who are at the opposite end of the ranking table with an 0-15 record.
Head coach Arif Nathoo rested many of York's starters to give the other members of the team more playing time, but it made no difference as the Lions went on a 13-3 run to blitz their opponents 25-6 in the first set.
The Lions continued their dominance in the next two sets despite a decent attempt by the Paladins to get back into the match, and ultimately went on to win 25-6, 25-16, 25-20.
The Lions were led by rookie Kristina Vlcek (Toronto, Ont.) and second-year middle Natasha Khan (Scarborough, Ont.), both of whom had 13 points in the game, including nine and 11 kills, respectively.

OTTAWA 3, RYERSON 0
TORONTO, Ont. - Fourth-year middle Joanie Beauregard-Veillette (Rouyn-Noranda, Ont.) and third-year leftside/rightside hitter Aminata Diallo (Travnik, Bosnia and Herzegovina) each had seven kills Saturday afternoon in a quick 3-0 women's volleyball road shutout at Ryerson.
The 25-23, 25-16, 25-17 win against the 2-13 Rams took barely more than 90 minutes, providing the Gee-Gees with a 12th victory in 16 regular season matches and sole possession of second place in the OUA East.
uOttawa defeated Ryerson in eight of the last 10 head-to-head meetings, including 2-0 this season.
"Volleyball is not our issue," said Gee-Gees coach Lionel Woods. "It's rhythm and confidence."

WESTERN 3, BROCK 2
LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs women's volleyball squad (12-2) defeated the Brock Badgers (10-5) in what turned out to be an exciting five-set match.
The Mustangs returned to their normal line-up as Sarah Johnston (Stratford, Ont.) recovered a broken nose which had kept her out for three weeks. But Western had a rough start, trailing 8-2 and then 16-10 at the two technical timeouts.
Elaine Screaton (Calgary, Alta.) did what she could, registering five kills and one solo block to bring the Mustangs back. However, it was not enough as they fell in the first set 25-23.
The Mustangs came to their second technical timeout down 15-16 in the second. Screaton led the team with six digs through the set to that point with strong defensive play. However, the Mustangs' defence began to struggle, and Western trailed 2-0 losing the second set 18-25.
But coming off a three-set loss to McMaster the previous weekend, Western was determined to recover - they came out during the third set fired up.
Fourth-year hitter Jacqueline Robinson (Vancouver, B.C.) started the set hitting left side. After Sarah Farrell (London, Ont.) had several serving runs, the Mustangs found themselves down 23-21. Screaton stepped up her offensive game, getting three big kills and keep the her team in the game by guiding the Mustangs to a 26-24 third-set win.
The fourth set was much of the same, as Sarah Lowry (Calgary, Alta.), who had 15 kills, nine digs and four solo blocks in the game, and Screaton, who added 17 kills and 22 digs through the five sets, led the Mustangs to an easy win 25-16.
The momentum carried to the fifth, when Farrell, who notched a game-high 20 points, finished the game with a huge kill down the line.
