OUA W-VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: LANCERS BATTLE BACK IN SEASON OPENER
The Thunderwolves came out flying, taking the first two sets from the Lancers 25-11 and 25-14.
The Lancers battled back with more consistent play to win a close third set 25-22 as well as the fourth set, 25-19.
In the fifth and deciding set, Windsor got strong play from veterans Brianna Binder (Maidstone, Ont.) and setter Jillian Fantuz (Chatham, Ont.) en route to the 15-11 set win and match victory.
Binder paced the Lancers with 15 kills, 19 digs and 15 points. Jovana Stranatic (Windsor, Ont.) had 12 kills, 8 digs and 14 points while Ashley Nixon had 8 kills, 8 digs and 11 points. Fantuz had a whopping 39 assists to go along with 2 aces, 4 digs and 3 points.
The Thunderwolves were led by Brianne Bartlett (Dryden, Ont.) with 12 kills, 3 aces, 6 digs and 16 points. Ashley Baer (Stratford, Ont.) had 11 kills, 5 digs and 13 points. Kalea Mullet (Moosomin, Sask.) had another strong game with 6 kills, 6 aces, 16 digs and 12 points.
The Lancers take to the road next weekend for a match against the Ottawa Gee Gees on Oct. 26 at 12 p.m.

BROCK 3, LAURIER 0
WATERLOO, Ont. - The Brock Badgers women's volleyball team opened the 2008-09 OUA regular season with a 3-0 sweep over the Laurier Golden Hawks (25-21, 27-25, 25-21).
The Badgers had a balanced offence led by junior Erin Mercer (Rockwood, Ont.) who recorded a double-double adding 10 kills and 11 digs.
Junior Heather Potts (Nepean, Ont.) added nine kills while freshman Janine Allcock (St. Catharines, Ont.) and junior Alexandra McKee (Whitby, Ont.) contributed with eight kills each in the victory.
Sophomore setter Ally Fast (St. Catharines, Ont.) finished with 28 assists and six digs in the victory.
The Badgers return to action next weekend when they host the Queen's Gaels on Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. and the RMC Paladins on Oct. 26 at 2 p.m.

OTTAWA 3, RMC 1
KINGSTON, Ont. - Aminata Diallo (Travnik, Bosnia and Herzegovina) had 14 kills and 10 digs as one of six rookie starters in Saturday afternoon's 3-1 road win over RMC for a 2-0 start in the OUA East.
The Gee-Gees 25-22, 13-25, 25-22, and 12-25 victory took place over in 93 minutes. The Paladins finished 0-19 last season.
"They dropped one set because they are rookies," said Gee-Gees head coach Lionel Woods.
The Gee-Gees host Western Ontario for their 2008-09 OUA home opener Sat., Oct. 25 at 2:30 p.m.
