MARAUDERS TAKE WIN AWAY FROM OTTAWA, WHILE THE LANCERS HAVE IMPRESSIVE WEEKEND
Heidi Bench had 20 kills to lead both teams as the McMaster Marauders volleyed for a 3-1 road victory over the ninth-ranked Gee-Gees Saturday afternoon.
The teams shared 40 lead changes over the course of the 30-28, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23 contest, played over two hours and five minutes, including 14 swaps in the opening game, won 30-28 by the 9-3 Marauders. uOttawa, which lost its first conference home match since Oct, 20, 2007, ended a string of seven matches in 10 days to fall to 10-3 in the OUA East.
Fifth-year leftside/rightside hitter Christine Lamey (Ottawa, ON) paced
the Gee-Gees with 18 kills and 28 digs. Fifth year setter and player of the match Laura Simons (London, ON), a uOttawa co-captain with Lamey, also contributed nine digs in the Gee-Gees tenth conference victory over just 65 minutes to remain tied with Toronto (10-2) atop the OUA East.
Windsor 3, RMC 0 and Windsor 3, Queen's 2
The Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team turned in an impressive weekend on the road as they earned a weekend sweep of their matches in Kingston against the Queen's Golden Gaels and the RMC Paladins.
On Friday night against RMC, the Lancers came out focused and ready to play as they earned the 3-0 sweep against the Paladins. Windsor captured all three sets by the scores of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-16.
Brianne Binder had an impressive match as she contributed 13 kills, eight digs and 17 points in the victory.
On Saturday against Queen's, it took five hard fought sets as the Lancers outlasted the Golden Gaels 3-2 to earn the victory.
Queen's won the opening set 25-23 before Windsor responded with a 25-23 second set victory of their own to tie the match. The Lancers won the third set 25-20 before the Gaels answered back with 25-18 set victory to force a fifth and deciding set.
The fifth set was evenly matched as the Lancers were eventually able to pull away and earn the 15-13 set win and 3-2 match victory.
In the win, Brianna Binder had another outstanding performance as she finished with 20 kills and 13 digs in the victory. Emily Hull also added 26 digs in the win.
