OUA M-SOCCER ROUNDUP: MARAUDERS UPSET NO. 7 GRYPHONS
The result leaves Guelph in first place in the OUA East and bumps McMaster to sixth spot.
On Oct. 7, the Marauders visit Brock and the Gryphons host No. 5 York.
YORK 2, BROCK 0
At Brock, goalkeeper Alim Karim (Scarborough, Ont.) recorded the shutout as the visiting York Lions (4-2-2) beat the host Badgers (1-6-1).
York's two goals came midway through the second-half courtesy of Philip Rivers (Woodbridge, Ont.) and Franco Ruscetta (Woodbridge, Ont.).
Both squads play mid-week games on Oct. 7 with York taking on No. 7 Guelph, and Brock battling with McMaster.
TORONTO 3, RMC 0
At RMC, the No. 9 Toronto Varsity Blues (6-1-2) had no problem shutting out the Royal Military College Paladins (0-6-1), cruising to a 3-0 victory.
Alex Raphael (East York, Ont.) scored the game's first goal in the 19th minute.
Teammates Scott Nesbitt (Scarborough, Ont.) and Yannis Gianniotis (Toronto) added second-half goals.
Both teams take to the field this week, as Toronto squares-off against Ryerson and RMC takes on Laurentian.
LAURENTIAN 4, CARLETON 0
At Carleton, the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs (5-2-1) easily shutout the host Ravens (4-3-2) on Sunday.
Dan Keir (Hamilton, Ont.) and Rudy Muteba (Sudbury, Ont.) scored for the Voyageurs in the first half. Davor Alisic (Charlottetown) and Trevor Beange (Sudbury, Ont.) added second-half tallies.
Scott Cliff (Hammer, Ont.) recorded his fourth shutout of the season.
Both teams play at home on Oct. 9. Laurentian hosts RMC and Carleton hosts Toronto.
RYERSON 2, QUEEN'S 2
At Queen's, the Ryerson Rams (3-3-4) and the host Gaels (4-1-5) came away with one point each after playing to a draw at Richardson Stadium on Sunday.
Queen's striker Michael Arnold (London, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Gaels early in the match, but Ryerson's Alex Braletic (Thornhill, Ont.) countered for the Rams, scoring his team-leading fourth goal.
Arnold notched another, but the Rams responded again with rookie defender Michael Jan (Toronto) finding the net.
The Rams will play a match against Toronto on Oct. 7 while Queen's travels north to take on Nipissing on Oct. 9.
WESTERN 2, WATERLOO 2
At Waterloo, the Western Mustangs (3-3-2) and host Warriors (3-2-3) traded goals in both the first and second halves en route to a 2-2 tie.
The match was a scrappy affair, with yellow cards being shown to seven players - two from Waterloo and five from Western.
Mike Marcoccia (London, Ont.) and Ryan Avola (London, Ont.) scored for Western, while Alexander Woo (Toronto, Ont.) and Chris Lam (Guelph, Ont.) notched goals for Waterloo.
Both teams see action before breaking for Thanksgiving, with Western hosting Windsor and Waterloo facing Laurier.
WINDSOR 2, LAURIER 2
At Wilfrid Laurier, the Golden Hawks (1-3-4) could not come up with a homecoming weekend win, playing to a draw in an exciting match against the Windsor Lancers (4-1-3).
The Hawks' Andrew Sanszole (Kitchener, Ont.) was first on the scoreboard, netting a goal in the 33rd minute.
The game's final 15 minutes were action-packed, with three different goal scorers finding the back of the net.
Windsor's Mike Watson (Windsor, Ont.) tied the game in the 77th minute, but Laurier responded with a goal from Spencer Cawker (Mississauga, Ont.) in the 82nd minute.
A Laurier victory appeared imminent until Windsor's Arlo Hemkes (Arnhem, Netherlands) scored in the game's final minute, sending both teams home with a single point.
Next up for Windsor is a match-up with Western while the Golden Hawks will square-off with Waterloo.
