OUA M-SOCCER ROUNDUP: NO. 2 LIONS DOWN MUSTANGS
Fourth-year midfielder Francesco Bruno (Toronto) and defender Franco Ruscetta (Woodbridge, Ont.) both scored goals for the Lions as they played a home game in the Toronto suburb of Oakville, Ont.
Alim Karim (Scarborough, Ont.) stopped four shuts for a shutout victory in net.
The Lions host the Windsor Lancers on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. The Mustangs visit the Guelph Gryphons in a 3:15 p.m. start.
LAURENTIAN 2, QUEEN'S 1
At Queen's, the Laurentian Voyageurs (3-0-1) edged the No. 8-ranked Queen's Gaels 2-1 for a key road victory.
Rudy Muteba (Sudbury, Ont.) scored a pair of goals to propel the Voyageurs past the Gaels. Scott Cliff (Hanmer, Ont.) made a great save on a penalty kick in the first half and picked up the win.
Lucas Azeredo Lobo (Kingston, Ont.) scored Queen's lone goal.
The Gaels (2-1-1) will look to rebound as they host the Nipissing Lakers in a 2:15 p.m. start on Sunday. The Voyageurs remain in Kingston as they visit RMC at 2:15 p.m.
CARLETON, 0 TORONTO 0
At Toronto, the No. 9-ranked Carleton Ravens (2-1-2) and host Varsity Blues (2-1-2) battled to a scoreless draw.
John Smits (Mississauga, Ont.) of the Varsity Blues and Samuel Hincks (Guelph, Ont.) of the Ravens each earned a shutout in goal.
The Ravens remain in the provincial capital to battle the Ryerson Rams at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday. The Varsity Blues are idle until Sept. 26 when they visit Laurentian at 2:15 p.m.
NIPISSING 3, RMC 0
At RMC, three different Lakers bulged twine to give Nipissing (2-2-0) its first road victory of the season against the host Paladins (0-2-0).
Sean Raposo (Brampton, Ont.), Kwadwo Adusei (Brampton, Ont.) and Mark Harrison (Toronto) all scored for the Lakers. With the win, Nipissing matches their win total of last season.
RYERSON 2, TRENT 0
At Ryerson, the Rams (1-3-1) earned their first win of the 2009 regular season with a 2-0 victory over the Trent Excalibur (1-3-1).
Ryerson got on the scoreboard near the end of the half when second-year defender Markus Molder (Toronto) got his head on a Ryerson corner kick and found the back of the net.
Rams forward Alex Plessas (Toronto) was buried a rebound to give the Rams a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute.
Anthony Volpe (Brampton, Ont.) combined with rookie keeper Aaryon Gaeeni (Toronto) for the clean sheet.
Trent is idle until Sept. 23 when it hosts RMC at 6:15 p.m.
WINDSOR 0, GUELPH 0
At Guelph, the host Gryphons (2-0-1) and visiting Windsor Lancers (0-1-2) battled to a scoreless draw.
Dan Mendonca (London, Ont.) of the Lancers made seven saves for the shutout. First-year player Adam Jovanovic (Kitchener, Ont.) of the Gryphons made four saves.
WATERLOO 2, MCMASTER 1
At McMaster, the Waterloo Warriors (2-0-1) pulled out a 2-1 road victory over the host Marauders (0-3-0).
Scoring for the Warriors were fifth-year midfielder Chris Lam (Guelph, Ont.) and second-year player Mohamed Aborig (Tripoli, Libya).
Omar Nakeeb (Mississauga, Ont.) netted McMaster's lone marker.
The Marauders host the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks while the Warriors visit the Brock Badgers. Both games start at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday.
LAURIER 1, BROCK 1
At Brock, the host Badgers (1-1-1) and Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (0-1-2) battled to a 1-1 draw.
Fourth-year defender Scott Carson (London, Ont.) put the Golden Hawks ahead in the 28th minute. The Badgers erased their deficit in the 79th minute when second-year midfielder Daniel Baldassarro (Niagara Falls, Ont.) evened the score.
