WINDSOR MENS SOCCER SELF-DISCLOSES RULE VIOLATION
HAMILTON, ON - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced today that the University of Windsor Lancers men’s soccer team has disclosed an administrative error on the score sheet for their Sunday, October 3 game versus the Laurier Golden Hawks resulting in the forfeiture of the match.
It was determined that Windsor was in violation of Rule 5.2 of the OUA Soccer Regulations which states “eighteen (18) players may dress per game and no more than a maximum of 24 individual being players, coaches and/or team officials will be allowed in the bench area.”
Windsor violated the 18 player limit by substituting a player who did not appear on the score sheet in place of one who was listed, therefore in actuality having 19 players available for the match.
Sanction for this violation is per Article 55 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code which states “if a player takes part in an official match despite being ineligible, his team will be sanctioned by forfeiting the match.”
As a result of the forfeiture, Windsor’s 2-1 win will be officially changed to a score of 1-0 for Laurier. All individual statistics from the game remaining valid.
