SWIMMING ROUNDUP: Brock Tri Meet / Wilfrid Laurier Invitational
Warriors show positive signs in final tune-up before OUA Championship
The Warrior swim teams raced Saturday in Brock and Sunday at Laurier in their final preparations for the OUA championship coming up next week in Ottawa. The results were quite positive with the team showing that they are on there way to some excellent results. With coveted relay spots on the line there was some tight racing particularly in the men's sprint events.
Saturday's meet saw Waterloo battle a very strong team from Western. Winners on that night were tough to come by with Zao Chen (Ottawa) capturing a close 400m free battle, Graeme Kemp (Waterloo) continuing to improve with a 200 fly victory, Jon Ramkissoon winning the 200m breast, and Meaghen Vydelingum (Toronto) capturing the only women's team victory of the night in the 200m fly.
Sunday morning dawned with the Warriors down the street to battle close rivals Laurier and the York Lions. The racing was close and the performances were positive once again. Waterloo won both the men's and women's sides of the competition by healthy margins after showing depth throughout.
There were many event winners in the group. A couple of highlights included Madlynn Palmer (Wentworth) winning her first ever varsity event in the 200m back; Brian Dohler (Smithers) posting a lifetime best 50m back which moved him to 4th on the all-time Warrior list and Meaghen Vydelingum (Toronto) showing that her continued hard work is paying off with a 100m back victory and a personal best in the 100m free.
The Warriors will now shift their attention to the OUA Championship hosted by Ottawa on Feb. 5.
