SWIMMING ROUNDUP: Guelph Varsity/Club Invitational
The first competition after the Christmas training break is always a mixed bag of results with some still suffering from the heavy challenges that have been presented over the past couple of weeks. Despite all of these challenges, the Warrior swimmers raced to second place overall in the team standings behind the host Gryphons but ahead of cross town rivals Laurier and York.
Life time bests were tough to come by under some difficult racing conditions but several swimmers rose and did their best ever swims. Madlynn Palmer (Wentworth) dropped more than 3 seconds in her 400 free race and Joshua Loong (Markham) had his best meet as a Warrior with solid 50 free and 100 fly results. Edward Cyr (Haliburton) showed some fire in the old body with a best-ever 50 breast and was joined in that event by rookie Danyon Chu (Markham). Fellow 1st year swimmer Thomas Akdeniz (Mississauga) posted personal bests in the 100 fly and 100 IM.
The Warriors travel to Toronto this coming Friday and Saturday as they continue a busy racing schedule to get ready for OUA Championships which are only 4 weeks away.
