Varsity Blues swimmers sweep Pioneer Energy Athletes of the Week

FEMALE: Vanessa Treasure, Toronto Varsity Blues, Swimming
Fourth-year standout Vanessa Treasure earned five gold medals and was named the female swimmer of the year in helping the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to their first OUA title since 2008 over the weekend at Brock University.
The Mississauga, Ont., native won the Dr. Jeno Tihanyi Award for Individual Medley Excellence for the second time in her career after winning both the 200 and 400 IM races. Treasure also earned individual gold in the 200 breast stroke, setting a new OUA record in a time of 2:28.99.
A kinesiology major, Treasure was a member of U of T’s record-breaking 800 freestyle relay team (8:08.60) and also claimed gold in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:13.37 on Day 2.
MALE: Zack Chetrat, Toronto Varsity Blues, Swimming
Fifth-year veteran Zack Chetrat won five gold medals and was named the male swimmer of the year in leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to their 11th straight OUA title this past weekend at Brock University.
A native of Oakville, Ont., Chetrat swept all three butterfly events, setting a new OUA record in the 100 butterfly (53.35) and earning an OUA major grand slam award for his fifth career victory in the 200 event (1:56.52).
The five-time OUA all-star and four-time CIS all-Canadian anchored Toronto’s 800 freestyle relay team to gold in a record-tying time of 7:23.84 on Day 1 and was also a member of U of T’s winning 400 medley relay team on Day 2 (3:40.08).
