WESTERN CONTINUES WINNING WAYS
The Western Mustangs continued their unbeaten streak this season, taking both games from the Lancers in this weekends action. In their first match-up, the game was tied 2-2 late in the third when assistant captain, Ryan Held scored the game winning goal for Western with just six seconds left to push the Mustangs past the Lancers 3-2. Gareth Hopes and Alex White were the goal scorers for Windsor while Western's leading scorer Mike Rice and teammate Jason Davies each added a goal in the victory for the Mustangs.
In the second game, Windsor opened the scoring early in the second period on a power play goal by Alex White but were unable to hold onto their lead as Western's offence exploded scoring four unanswered goals. Kevin Richardson led the team to their second victory over the Lancers scoring two goals while teammates Craig Kennedy and Jamie Chamberlain scored the Mustangs other two goals. With the two victories, Western improves to 11-0-0-1 while Windsor drops to 5-6-1 on the season.
UQTR 3, Ottawa 3 (OT)
The top two teams in the Far East Division went head to head this weekend and did not disappoint as the game ended in a 3-3 draw. UQTR jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Ottawa but were unable to hold off a tough Gee-Gees offense who stormed back in the final two periods to even the score at three. Nicolas Pelletier and Mathieu Thibodeau led UQTR, scoring one goal and adding one assist a piece in the game. Jeffrey Pont and Ben McLeod each scored a goal for Ottawa but it was Chris Large's unassisted goal at 15:04 in the third that tied the game and secured the point for the Gee-Gees. With the tie, UQTR remained a top their division while Ottawa narrowly holds onto second place with a 7-3-2-1 record.
Waterloo 4, Brock 4 (OT)
Brock and Waterloo skated to a 4-4 tie this weekend, as overtime settled nothing. Brock jumped out to an early lead late in the first on a Dallas Beaton power play goal but Waterloo came back in the second period scoring two goals by Dave Philpott and Kevin Hurley. Brock looked to have the victory in hand but with just under ten seconds left in the match, Alex Macdonell scored the tying goal for the Warriors giving each team a point for the tie.
UQTR 7, RMC 1
UQTR dominated their match against the RMC Paladins, defeating them 7-1 in convincing fashion. RMC jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on a Jesse Bruni goal but the lead was short lived as UQTR scored seven unanswered goals including six on the power play. Eric Jean led the team in scoring with two goals and three assists while teammate Samuel Gibbons added one goal and three assists of his own in the game. With the victory, UQTR improved to 9-2-2-1 on the season while RMC dropped to 3-6-0-4.
