WEEKEND ROUNDUP
Laurier pulled out a victory over the ninth-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees as Richard Colwill scored the game winning goal for the Hawks with only thirty-three seconds remaining in the game. Nick Vernelli opened the scoring for Ottawa at 11:56 in the first to go ahead 1-0 but Laurier came back in a penalty ridden second period scoring two power play goals by Nick Vergeer and Nick Vukovic. Ottawa was able to even the score 2-2 late in the third period on a Rob Rideout goal but it was Laurier who would have the last word as they sealed the victory with just over thirty seconds left in regulation play. With the loss, Ottawa drops to 7-3-1-1 while Laurier moves above the .500 mark improving to 6-5 on the season.
Lakehead 9, Ryerson 1
Lakehead continued their dominate play this weekend defeating the Rams by eight goals in a 9-1 victory. The Thunderwolves jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first and kept up this momentum heading into the second period scoring five of their nine goals in this period alone. Peter Cava and Erik Lodge led the team with two goals a piece while teammate Jeff Richards had three assists in the game. Ryersons lone goal scorer was Matt Murphy but they could not overcome a tough Lakehead team who held the Rams to just 14 shots in the game.
York 4, UQTR 3 (OT)
Despite a twenty point shot differential, York was able to capture a 4-3 victory over a tough UQTR team in overtime. The game was tied 3-3 after two periods sending this game into overtime as the third period settled nothing. Lion's player, Blair Grennier scored the game winning goal at 4:03 into overtime to give York the win. Philip Knapp, Michael Mckenna, and Shane Nash were the other goal scorers for York while goaltender Scott Della Vedova helped keep his team in the game stopping 49 of the 52 shots he faced.
McGill 1, Brock 0
McGill narrowly pulled out a 1-0 victory over the Brock Badgers on Friday night. The game was scoreless until senior player, Doug Orr scored at 6:28 of the third period for McGill, who hung on for the 1-0 victory over the Badgers. The Badgers out shot McGill 26-20 including 7-1 in the final period but it was not enough as freshman Mathieu Poitras collected his second shutout of the season. With the victory, McGill moved into top spot in the Far East Division.
