Astolfo, Santos, West named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Evan Astolfo, Justin Santos, and Brianna West have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending August 31st, 2025.
Evan Astolfo, Football, Waterloo Warriors
Astolfo hit the longest field goal in OUA history in the Waterloo Warriors’ 26-23 overtime victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues. The rookie kicker hit a 57-yard field goal that just cleared the crossbar with no time left on the clock in the fourth quarter to tie the game and force overtime.
Already a hero, the Burlington, Ont. product connected a 21-yard field goal in overtime to give Waterloo the win. The thrilling finish also secured the Warriors their first win since 2023.
Justin Santos, Soccer, TMU Bold
Santos recorded a hat trick to power the TMU Bold to a come-from-behind 5-2 victory over the Trent Excalibur in their 2025 season opener. Trailing 2-0, the fifth-year forward from Toronto, Ont. scored three straight goals.
He netted the equalizer and the game winner before sealing the win with his third goal of the afternoon. His three goals mark his second career hat trick.
The business management student concluded his game with six shots, four of which were on goal.
Brianna West, Soccer, RMC Paladins
Backstopping the RMC Paladins to their first OUA women's soccer victory since 2018, second-year keeper, West kept a clean sheet on Saturday afternoon. The Kingston, Ont. product stopped seven shots for the Paladins, in their 1-0 win over Laurentian to open the season.
West, on numerous occasions, kept the game locked in a draw with the Voyageurs until her teammates were able to break through late in the first half to take the lead. Five of her seven saves came in the second half, as RMC worked to hold on to their lead.
In her second match of the week, West made nine saves in the Paladins’ 5-1 loss to the Queen’s Gaels, for a total of 16 saves over the two days.
