Barnett and Garrity named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Scott Barnett and Brian Garrity have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending August 24th, 2025.
Scott Barnett, Football, Toronto Varsity
Barnett, a fourth-year kinesiology major, led the Blues in a dominant 42-23 season opening win at the Carleton Ravens on Saturday. His 614 passing yards put his name in the conference record books, seting a new OUA record. Barnett supplanted the previous single-game Varsity Blues record of 548 yards set by Simon Nassar during the 2014 season, while also ranking second in the all-time U SPORTS record book trailing just behind the 627-yard mark set by Calgary quarterback Greg Vavra in 1983.
Orchestrating the passing attack to feature three receivers over the 100-yard receiving mark, the Alliston, Ont. product finished 32-for-39 with four passing touchdowns on the day in total.
Brian Garrity, Football, Western Mustangs
Garrity had a clutch performance for the Western Mustangs this weekend in their 45-42 four-overtime win over the Queen’s Gaels in Kingston. The social sciences student from London, Ont. made five field goals during the contest to help Westen secure the dramatic win.
The Mustangs found themselves down 16 points with under three minutes to play and put away two touchdowns, a pair of two-point conversions, and grabbed the late lead off a field goal by Garrity. The Gaels scored their own field goal to tie the game up and send it to overtime. Garrity connected on three field goals in the four overtime periods, including the game winner for the Mustangs.
