OUA talent takes the field as 2026 CFL season kicks off
Burlington, Ont. - When the Canadial Football League (CFL) season kicks off this week, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) football alumni will once again be making their mark across the league.
Over 60 former OUA student-athletes are set to begin the 2026 campaign on CFL rosters, including a team-high 11 on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats followed by the Ottawa Redblacks (9) and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (8). Wilfrid Laurier, meanwhile, are the most represented conference squad on the gridiron, with 13 former Golden Hawks - including former OUA MVPs Taylor Elgersma and Kurleigh Gittens Jr. - suiting up this season.
Their continued presence at the professional level highlights the strength of football programs across Ontario and the opportunities available to student-athletes competing in the OUA.
As the season unfolds, OUA graduates will look to contribute in every phase of the game, carrying their university experience onto the national stage.
