BROCK TOPS WEST, WHILE GAELS UPSET BLUES
The Laurier Golden Hawks sit third in the West with 19 points after a win and a draw this week. Damir Hadziavdic and Daniel Toto scored first-half goals in a 2-1 victory over the Waterloo Warriors Wednesday, while Toto also helped earn another point scoring the lone Hawks goal in a 1-1 draw with the York Lions Sunday. Toto struck just before the half-time whistle but Luca Forno replied in the 68th minute to salvage a tie for the Lions.
With the East-leading Toronto Varsity Blues dropping a 1-0 decision to the Queen's Golden Gaels Saturday, the second-place Carleton Ravens had an opportunity to make up some ground in the table. Andrew Park scored twice for the Ravens with Ahmad Berjawi adding a third as Carleton beat the Laurentian Voyageurs 3-0. Karl Vladimar Wasslen made four saves for the shutout. The Ravens couldn't keep the momentum going Sunday, drawing 2-2 with the Nipissing Lakers. Matt Prikken had both Nipissing goals, while Kofi Ilboudo tallied twice for Carleton, including a second-half equalizer.
David Kerr-Vayne had the lone goal in Queen's 1-0 win over Toronto. But the Blues increased their point total to 27 on Sunday with a convincing 3-0 win over the RMC Paladins. Standout Mike Bialy scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season to build a 2-0 lead for the Blues before Nordo Gooden added a third. Luciano Lombardi recorded his ninth clean sheet in 13 matches in the Toronto goal.
Elsewhere around the league, Jonathon Mondino scored the only goal of the match as the Trent Exaclibur defeated RMC 1-0 Wednesday in Kingston. York and Guelph played to a goalless draw Thursday. In Saturday action, Ryerson and RMC drew 1-1, while Yousuf Mohammad, Ryan Zak and John Demik all scored as the McMaster Marauders got by the Windsor Lancers 3-2. Scott Cameron and Mark Pocrnic each tallied in Western's 2-1 over McMaster Sunday. Guelph and Waterloo played to a 2-2 draw. A meeting between Queen's and Ryerson was cancelled due to an unplayable pitch.
