Mustangs women win second straight Canadian University Rowing Championship
VICTORIA – For the second time in as many years the Western Mustangs women's rowing team stands atop the Canadian university rowing world as they claimed first place at the Canadian University Rowing Championships on Sunday afternoon.
VICTORIA – For the second time in as many years the Western Mustangs women's rowing team stands atop the Canadian university rowing world as they claimed first place at the Canadian University Rowing Championships on Sunday afternoon.
The Mustangs women finished on top of the standings with 117 points, 15 ahead of silver medalists the University of British Columbia, and 24 ahead of third-place Victoria.
On the men's side of the event the Mustangs finished in fourth place with 80 points. UBC claimed the top spot with 106 points, just beating out Victoria with 102, while Brock earned bronze with 85 points overall.
Western's women finished the completion with six medals, earning a spot on the podium in all six events. The Mustangs rowers brought home three gold medals, one each in the lightweight women's single, lightweight women's double, and lightweight women's four, along with a silver in the women's eight, and bronze in both the women's single and women's double.
The Mustangs men also claimed some hardware, taking gold in the men's double, while just missing the podium in the men's single, lightweight men's four and men's eight with a trio of fourth place finishes.
On the individual awards front, Jill Moffatt was honoured as the Outstanding Female Rower of the Year.
