OUA BY THE NUMBERS
HAMILTON, Ont. – A weekly look at stats and figures from around Ontario University Athletics (OUA).
4 – The number of passes McMaster defensive end Joey Cupido (Hamilton, Ont.) picked off in the OUA football semifinal to tie the OUA and CIS record. He joins two others at the top of the record list with four interceptions in a single game and is the first to accomplish the feat since 1982. Cupido also added two tackles in the game and was named the OUA and CIS Football Player of the Week on defence.
7 – The number of points Windsor captain Candace Rapchak (Stoney Point, Ont.) scored in two games this weekend. She netted one goal and three assists against York and had a hat trick against Western, leading the Lancers to two victories.
209 – The number of rushing yards Tyler Varga (Kitchener, Ont.) racked up during Western’s 33-27 semifinal victory over Windsor this weekend. He ran for two touchdowns on 33 attempts and was named the OUA and CIS Football Player of the Week on offence.
3 – The number of shutouts Queen’s goalkeeper Chantel Marson (London, Ont.) posted during the OUA women’s soccer playoffs. Marson came up with the deciding save in a penalty shoot out to lead Queen’s to their first OUA title since 2002. She was named OUA Pioneer Energy Female Athlete of the Week.
0 – The number of points allowed by the Guelph Gryphons women’s rugby team in the national championship game. The Gryphons shut out St. FX 28-0 to claim their first national title since 1998.
15 – The number of kills first year outside hitter Alex Dawson (Scarborough, Ont.) had for Ryerson in an upset victory over McMaster. Dawson led all players with his 15 kills and also added three aces and five digs to lead the Rams to their first victory over the Marauders since the 2006-2007 season.
2 – The number of goals second year forward Paterson Farrell (Oakville, Ont.) scored in the OUA men’s soccer championship game. He opened the scoring in the 20th minute and added the insurance marker to seal the victory for McMaster. Farrell was named the OUA Pioneer Energy Male Athlete of the Week for his performance.
58 – The number of saves rookie goaltender Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia, Ont.) recorded to lead the Warriors to two upset victories this past weekend. Bouwhuis stopped 34 against Brock and added 24 more to defeat Guelph.
131 – The amount of all-purpose yardage McMaster receiver Michael DiCroce (Hamilton, Ont.) piled up in the Marauders’ semifinal win. He caught six passes for 103 yards and tacked on 27 rushing yards on three attempts.
