In his first year as McMaster's starting quarterback, Asher Hastings shredded the Marauders record book and that of CIS as well in 2015. With a total of 31 touchdowns through the air, Hastings broke the CIS mark and outpaced Mac's previous team record by 10. By season's end, the Regina product owned McMaster records for most completions (203), most passing yards (2586), highest completion percentage (71.5) and most touchdown passes in a single season, compiling arguably the greatest statistical year for any quarterback in McMaster history.

He returns in 2016 with his full assortment of receiving weapons intact, including CIS First Team All-Canadian Danny Vandervoort, whose 11 touchdown receptions a year ago was a McMaster record of its own. With a deep group of pass catchers, and the return of veteran Chris Pezzetta at running back, Hastings has all of the ingredients needed to build upon his showing of a year ago, and lead the Marauders on a deep run against the OUA and CIS' finest.
